Hand held tuner vs. Timing adjuster

Just wondering what everybody thought on the pros and cons of one of these over the other..
IMO it seems like the tuner would be the way to go because you can adjust your timing AND do a lot of other things.....why not put the money saved for a timing adjuster towards a tuner and get the other added benefits??

I just bought a predator tuner today. I will post tonight when I get home to let everyone know how it does. I am pretty excited. The part I like is that next week when I get my o/r x-pipe I can use that to turn off the rear o2 sensors instead of using mil eliminators and I can turn off the traction control. I definitely think it beats a timing adjuster.

Chip and tune $500+

Timing Adjuster $130

Chip and Tune is not needed unless you have every bolt on or boost. For a car with exhaust and an intake, a timing adjuster is going to be much more cost effective for about the same amount of HP.

In the end, the chip is the ultimate way to tune, but for most n/a bolt on cars, the Steeda T/A is significantly more cost effective.

I just installed the predator on my car and all I can say is wow!!!!! I felt a ton of SOTP power. From 35mph in 4th it pulled harder than it ever has. On the highway I went from 70 to 100mph before I could blink. It was totally amazing. I would definitely go with the predator. I can't wait until I change the tune a little bit and see what I can get out of it.

Where did you get your predator from? I might be ordering one myself within the next month or so. what did you pay for it?

I got it from Brad's Custom Auto here in Seattle. It cost $419. A little pricey but with the flexibility I think it is worth it.

My car picked up 8rwhp and 11rwtq with the SCT Flasher over a Steeda timing adjuster set @ 15*. I also got rid of the surge the timing adjuster was causeing.

The reason I posted the thread is because I have a tuner on the way, mainly because of the gear swap in my future and the O2 sensor shut-off. I found mine on ebay and it is on the way, so I am feeling better about it after hearing what you guys have to say... for most of us I think dropping 300-400 dollars is a hard pill to swallow!!

Yeah, but also include speedo correction, MIL fix, etc - It's not just to bump the timing.

I know, a chip is very versitile. I have had my 4.10's for a couple months now, and no problems yet, still dead on. I hope it stays that way for a long, long time.

I am very happy with the Diablo Predator Programmer. The tuning flexibility is excellent. I would highly recommend this product over other chips, tuners, and timing adjusters.

I have a SCT chip and wouldn't trade it for anything else. I had a hypertech programmer, but wasn't happy with the results. I picked up a few more horsepower with the chip, because it is made for MY car not a generic program, and its a lot less pain in a$$.

I debated this for awhile but decided to give the Timing Adjuster a try. I don't plan on changing gears anytime soon, don't have an auto and don't have MIL issues. I justed want a little more performance from the timing bump. As long as my car runs good with it, I think it will be the best decision for my needs.

i know where i can get a chip and dyno tune for 380 bucks, i would take that over a hand held.
you can pick up t/a's for 85-100 bucks all day on stang sites if you look.
