I am going to put my 302 with the ECU and engine harness up for sale this week, planning to run megasquirt on the 408.

My question is what do I need to keep from the stock system to re-use (if anything) and how hard is it to separate the the engine harness from the rest of the engine bay harness?

Thanks,
Collin

not hard at all just did mine this summer when I went from EFI 331 / YS blower combo to the carbed windsor. the whole ecu harness comes right out, you will have to disconnect it behind the dash where it ties into the main harness, mine was in two spots, as well as the fuel pump relay underneath the seat. Pulling it through thefirewall can be a bit trick with the dash and heating controls in place, you'll most likely have to pull the dash. The injector harness, and O2 harness will go with it obviously.

not sure what you need to keep for megasquirt though - does it have you use the injector harness?

Thats what I don't know.

Im wondering if I can get more money selling my entire package as a single running unit and then just buying the small parts I might need afterward. Worth it?

Ill have to look a little further in to what comes with the software.

I did a little browsing and this is what turned up:

MegaSquirt Carb to EFI Part 3: MultiPort Fuel Injection (MPFI)

Where they took a Nova and converted it from carb to multiport EFI and it says the principles are the same for any engine. I just don't know if I can make the same connections to the existing pieces needed in the system like ECT, IAC, TPS and such, if I were to keep them from the 302. I do like the idea of making my own harness. Seems like it could have the potential to really clean up the engine bay, even though all of my wires are hidden

They also make a PNP 5.0 system that plugs in where the factory computer does, thus eliminating the need for removing the stock harness. But, I think that getting rid of the factory harness junk altogether and wiring in my own would be cleaner/neater/more fun.

Not sure what to think. I may send them an email if I don't hear anything from anyone on here or the local board.

I could always go carb.........

I went carb and I'll never go back, but it's a race car so drivability isn't a concern

time and time again I have screwed myself by selling parts before a project was 100% done. Hold onto everything until the car is absolute and then chuck the stuff that is left over.

Point well taken. I really need the money for the final push though. Guess I'll just have to run up the credit card I just paid off, haha

I agree with the above, no point in getting rid of it before you know for sure what you need.

And that and you really won't get all that much for a harness and computer, couple hundred bucks maybe

I wrote a nice post about megasquirt earlier and the internet connection quit, so it didn't post. I'm currently in the Anchorage airport (wasted) and don't feel like re-typing the entire schpiel. If interested, lemme know, I'll send a PM.

Is an 89 MAF engine harness a direct plug in on an 86? Or do you need to do the pigtail harness thing and wire it in that way

What Im getting at here with the selling aspect is IF I sold an entire turn key system with harness, ECU, motor, and supporting parts so basically someone doing a 4-8 swap could buy a complete package, could I get more money for it?
