I changed my 5x7s to some upper end JL audio. After i got the stock one's out the drivers were about the same size and the voice coil seemed bigger on the stock's. Now my system does sound much better, but it's not worth the price of the speakers and amp.

Edit. Unless you are going with some good subs. You won't be able to hear your mids and highs otherwise

Did you replace the stock amp and deck? If not, you are not feeding your JL's full range signal. (What they were designed for). I gutted my whole mach system and did Infinity Kappa 5x7 components all around, 5ch amp 10" MTX 7500 and an Eclipse AVN7000 DVD/ Nav. Couldn't be happier!!!
