Headers and 70mm TB help after Vortech install?

I have just installed Vortech V2 blower and I am looking at making 10 lbs of boost or so....

I am getting dyno tuned next week and here is what I have.

3.73's
Anderson Power Pipe
255 Walbro Fuel Pump
PMAS 95 Velocity mass air meter for 42lb's
42 lb injectors
Bassani x-pipe with Edelbrock mufflers

I am about out of cash and I know once they burn a chip that I will be stuck with my combo for awhile because I ain't paying for another one anytime soon.

Since I have the stock intake, heads, cam, etc. would I see any real benefit from upgrading to a 70mm TB and a set of shorty headers before I have it tuned? (All stock items in place right now) I am trying to get an idea of the gain I would see doing the TB and headers with my combo and if it would be worth the extra cash for them?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert on flow, but it seems to me that that you have a choke point right in the middle with the stock T/B, intake, heads and exhaust manifolds. I thought it was all about getting more air in and letting more air out. You have the flow capabilities on the outer edges (S/C, mass air, powerpipe - X pipe, mufflers) Like I said, I'm no expert. I just hope the stock parts can handle it.

I just got mine tuned Monday with a V2 - 3.33 pulley w/ 6.87 crank pulley pushing 10.2 #'s of boost.

Good thing is, once you buy the chip most tuners will give you a discount if you need to get it retuned.

Yes, I totally agree with what you said. I have decided to do a 70mm throttle body and going to enlarge the stock intake opening for it.

I know the stock headers flow decent but once the horsepower increases they aren't as good. I have no idea where my HP numbers are going to be with this, but I believe I am going to have to leave the headers on there until I do heads and an intake swap....though that is way down the road.

The stock lower intake is the big choke point on the 5.0s Then the heads and TB. I believe that the stock headers are good to 300 hp before they start to become a choke point as well.

To get the most out of it an HCI combo would be best but since you are running towards the end of your budget it might be worth it to pick up a stock lower intake for cheap, and they can be had for cheap or even free if you look, and play around porting it or have it ported. This can usually be done for between $120-$140 if I remember right. If you pm tmoss he can tell you how much to port a stock lower.

Change of plans.....

Well, I decided to do intake and heads.

I found a good deal on the GT-40 X303's due to them being discontinued. I am going to use a Cobra intake with those with the stock cam but with the Cobra roller rockers.

With this setup will the 42lb injectors along the Vortech at roughly 10psi and a dyno tune be enough injector? I have the high pressure Walbro 255 fuel pump....

Thanks....

Sounds like a pretty good combo! Should make some nice numbers and have great TQ. The stock cam should work good with the blower.

As for injectors, 42lbs should be enough, but dont quote me.

If you are going that far, do a cam shaft swap!! No sense in doing all of that work and leaving the stock dump stick, oops, I mean bump stick in there! lol I would highly recommend an Anderson Ford B - series cam for your blower application.

Im no expert on anything but I've tinkered with these things since I was little and seems like everyone who has told you something has had their head screwed on pretty good the guy that said the cam would make sense to do I agree a cam is cheap and if your already going to be in the motor might as well go for it however if your running out of money cam swap isn't a huge deal to do later as for the injectors my good buddy has a 331 built with a charger and I think he runs like 12-14 lbs and he runs 42 lb injectors in his car I don't know how much power it builds but if you watch pinks all out and you see the bristol tennessee episode his is the baby blue notch with the white stipes that rides the bumper 60 feet then looses traction white smokes the slicks and almost smackes the wall like three times but saved it THATS HIM lol anyway good luck enjoy beating the heck out of it hope the rear end and tranny is built lol Jody
