Hey guys, I currently have BBK longtubes and want to do a GT40 P head swap in the future. Is it going to be a MUST for me to use different headers or is there an easy way around it?

Oh, and my plans are GT40 P heads, Trick Flow Stage 1 or 2 cam, and not totally sure on the intake....Explorer maybe?? What do you guys think?

I already have a Fox 65mm FMS TB so I will be doing the Fox TB setup at the same time. I also plan on using stock injectors as well.

Anybody take a stab at the total cost? I was gonna plan on $2000 to play it safe.
Thanks alot guys.

Clearance isnt the issue I was refering to. BBK headers are supposed to make it really hard to change plugs on GT40 P heads. I heard you have to like cut a socket in half or something.

get different headers you will be much happier especially if you wanna change the plugs a little easier I think Kooks makes a really nice set.

You bolting those Ps on stock or "massaging" em some???

I spoke with Thumper some time ago on doing up a set of those...told me he make me sweet set and they rip when done, Ps respond the best, to him...I think it was 600.00 for the works...Dbl springs, o/size Ferrera valves..If I could score a set real cheap, think I'd send him a set...

im also in the same boat , tryna figure out which headers will be best for my gt40 heads, probably shorties, and correct or wrong the FMS shorty headers i heard fit the best for the gt40 heads? i dont have the P heads tho but i belive they are all the same? also how does one compare the MAC headers

(not trying to thread jack, just get some more info in the thread) hehe

Well, you see, my fear with MAC headers is 3 things:
1. The gaskets they come with blow (not a big deal since I have a set of Fel-Pros lyin around.
2. The bolts they come with blow.
3. You only want to put them on once and once only.

Even with this in mind I still think I may get MACs because Kooks headers are waaaay too expensive for me. I guess I'll just have to get MAC's with my gaskets, different bolts and make sure I don't put them on til I build the engine.

So, Rio, his head upgrade is $600? Seems steep, but if it will perform i guess that may be a good route.

FYI, I think I want to run low 13s on DRs. I would say high 12s, but with my heavy vert who knows.

Not true on the Macs...I had my LTs on/off 4 times over and being 3 yrs old, every bolt lined up by hand...The gaskets and bolts, ya maybe...I used the 1415 and Stg8s...Done deal there...

600.00 is steep..I would opt to alteast clean em up some tho...Get one of those SA head kits and do it up...Its only 25.00 for the kit and It'll do up one set...

i got my whole motor for 650. It has gt40p heads, an explorer intake, and came with 55k. oh and a 65 mm tb. Damn for what peeps are getting for heads, explorer intake, etc youde be better to do what i did, just buy a whole motor from the junk yard and rip it down, or just do what i did and swap to a lower milage motor.

I think jon is gonna wanna go the route he is talking about and not get a completely different motor. There is something to be said for buying somethings new. Plus the further you go away from stock the more problems come with it.

I'm sure I'll be helping out if he does this and my suggestion is too just get the bare casting for like 300 or whatever they cost and have them cleaned up locally and assembled with quality valves and springs. With a decent cam and a port motched intake, I see no reason why it shouldn't put down atleast 280rwhp and run high 12's on DR's. Sounds like a sweet and cost effective combo too me.
