Low and behold I found some more time to work on the engine.

Heating the Cometic gaskets to get the Copper spray to set up. (cold in garage)

Btw, those are 1.7 ratio pedestal mount rockers.

I ordered the Cometic gaskets in a thickness with lifter preload in mind. The goal was to make up the difference for the block decking and head milling.

Turned out perfect. I'm getting about 3/4 turn to tq spec from zero lash. No shims needed.
 
I did my HCI install with the motor still in the car. While it would certainly be easier to do it out of the car, that's only true if the motor is already out or you have a good reason to pull it to begin with. If you're only doing the HCI install then leave it in the engine bay.
