I'm starting to look at possibly changing from stock heads to something that'll help give a little more power. i am looking at getting explorer intakes port and polished for a great deal from a guy i know. Im not sure what heads i can get and still use the same intake so im not wasting money. i found these on criagslist but not sure if its worth the money the guy wants/ or if i could use the intake i'm buying. Also if i change out the heads what else do i need to consider?

the heads for sale" edelbrock performer aluminum heads complete with stock rockers on them have trick flow 6.150 push rods for them to $750 obo"

thanks for any light you'll can shine on this

I would invest into aluminum heads. The Eddie's are good for the money. If you buy used heads bring them to a shop to get them looked at. If all is well ditch the stock rockers for scorpions. At this point the cam will be the most important component to complete the package. The stock heads way a ton compared to aluminum's too.

Also for the cam is the f303 cam if i can pick it up for around $50 or is this the same cam that comes stock...(remember completely new to the 5.0 world) Also has anyone heard of professional products like thier intakes trying to find reviews online cant seem to find anything or im not looking right. im asking cuase the same guy with the heads also has this rofessional products upper and lower intake with 70mm throttle bodie and bbk 70mm egr plate and hes asking 275 obo not sure if it would be worth picking up also. thanks again for the help

That is a pretty good deal on Edelbrock performer heads. That is a very decent head. An F cam for $50 is also a good deal. It's a lot bigger than the stock cam and pretty well suited for those heads. Professional Products is a Chinese junk company. Much better to buy a quality used part then a pro products new.

The heads and cam will work on your car. I've bought heads from a guy who lived in a mobile home with car parts in every room. There are a lot of shady people out there. What are you looking to spend on heads?

You can use your cobra intake and shorty headers with just about any aftermarket head other than GT40P's which require a P header. Edelbrock Performer, FRPP GT40X, AFR 165's, TFS, etc. will all work well and lighten the nose up due to aluminum vs. cast iron. With the right cam to complete the combo and a dyno tune (adjusting timing, fuel, etc.) it should get you close to 300HP. Look at the FAQ sticky, scroll to Member Combo's. You'll see the HP levels achieved with various heads / intake / cam packages.

That Cobra intake is actually a very good piece, and works well with most entry level heads. I'm leaning towards the AFR165 with that intake and shorty headers. I know those heads look pricey, but when you add up all the extra hardware that should be bought with a cheaper head like an Edelbrock, it really doesn't save you any money.

See my sig. With ported gt40 iron heads, e cam and cobra intake I made 290 rwhp without any tuning. I did gasket match the lower GT40 intake with a dremel.

those are a lot better option. The fact the ones you were looking at come w/ pushrods does not matter. Unless your running the exact same valve train you wont require the same size pushrods. so your paying $750 for so so heads, pushrods you cant use and stock roller rockers.

I'm running the exact same combo you are listing and it runs great. I have never had it dyno'd or tuned and i used one of those gtech meters and it said i was making 319 to the wheels. Don't know about those meters though but thats what it said.
