Heater blower died... it's -5 degrees on the drive home

Alright, so I'm an hour away from home, it's -5 out (not including wind chill) and my heater blower dies. Now I'm minimally mechanical, the 'Stang is my project/learner car. How hard is it to install a new blower? I know it's not my heater core, due to the SMALL amount of heat that's comming out of the vents, but when I turn the switch to blow up, nothing happens - or should I say the amount of air comming out stays the same.

How easy is it to install a new blower? Any idea on the price? Thanks, you guys are my heros!
 
Well there are 2 options that can cause the blower to fail. On 87-93 Mustangs the fan switch and pigtail can over heat and begine to melt. I know this because when my Mustangs switch began to smoke I figure there was a problem. While looking for a new switch in the boneyard I found that the Taurus has the same switch, not sure which years you kinda have to look around. In removing these switches I found some of the pigtails to be brunt or melted. Some of these cars had the pigtail replaced at some point as well. Pull the AC panel and look at the fan switch.

If the blower is bad then you have to remove the blower box to fix it. You can also check the blower resistors which is on the front of the heater box.

No the fan went through a brief squeaking process (I'm assuming it's the fan, kuz I don't think the wiring would squeak) and it was followed by an... unpleasent aroma. Then... it was cold, very cold.
Has anyone replaced the heater blower? The switch looks fine... just wondering on about how long it took them. (it'll let me know how much coffee to have ready so I don't freeze to my car while I'm working on it!)
