heater core - where to buy

Should I buy the OEM ford part I found it for $45. Autozone has one which is made by transpro for $28. Napa has one for $23. I just don't want to do this job more than once.

Ford OEM. The largest majority of folks who've swapped them have had better luck with the Ford part.

Make sure you remove ALL the old sticky-goo from the air box before you intall the new core.

Do you live in a warm climate? If so I would trash can the heater core immediately. I did 3 of them and finally trashed it.

No I live in long island. My mustang is not my daily driver so I could trash the heater core but I think I'd like to have it just in case.

Remember, by trashing the heater core you also lose the defroster. Something to think about. If you choose to do it, I would buy the Ford piece. "After the thrill of the low price is gone..."

I'd go get the closest parts store one. Carquest in my case mostly. I have had a Ford unit fail in all 3 of my Foxes. And one aftermarket unit. Does not seem to matter, I think the tube and core size, combined with a hot/cold environment, vibration and chemicals just kills the little suckers.

Get one from the Ford dealer.

I replaced my heater core 2 weeks ago...(f`n major pita btw).

I last did the job 8 years ago using a NAPA heater core.

The Ford heater core has thicker tanks and thicker inlet/outlet pipes compared to the old NAPA heater core.
