did mine last year and it was a pain in the butt. Took me around 6 hrs all together and i ended up cutting the box it rests in w/ a dremel. Not a fun job but you'll appreciate not having coolant in your floormats. gluck it's pretty much a full day's job if u take ur time.

That's the heater core I bought and installed. The only problem was someone forgot to soldier completely around the pipe that goes to the actually heater core and I'm now pulling the dash and heater for the second time. I'm not saying its 50 resto's problem all I'm saying is who ever 50 resto gets the heater core from needs better Quality Control.
I've always heard the only heater core to get is from Ford and that's where I going tomorrow to get me new heater core, I don't want to do it a third time.

351wRusty I had the same problem as you with the air blowing out of the defrost (not after changing the heater core or anything though). My problem was that there is a vacume hose that goes up under the drivers side dash and it connects to a vacume canister that looks like a small fuel filter. I plugged the hose back into the nipple and my vents worked after not having them for about the 1 1/2 that I had already owned my car. If this is your problem your prolly going to need to clean the car up after you fix it b/c all kinds of crap blew out of my vents when i got them working. Hope all this jiberish helped.

In my 85, I got to it right though the glove box, cut it out of the plastic box it's in, replaced it, and taped the plastic piece back on. I didn't have A/C though, so I'm not sure if it would be in the way.

I started a heatercore swap but chickend out pretty quickly. If you're anywhere near this guy JadeFalcon mentioned and are having your doubts about doing it yourself, I say contact him immediately. lol For some of the quotes I got from local repair shops I could drive my car to Texas (get the $100 job) and back and probably get off cheaper.

I had the same problem as you and Silverbullet and like he said, it was a vacuum problem. The source of my problem was in a different area so this'll give you another spot to check out.

On the driver's side of the engine compartment (on the firewall), there's a connector where several small (hard plastic) vacuum hoses are attached. Turns out the hose that controls the vents had snapped just behind the manifold. Reconnected the hose with some black tape and was good to go.
