Heater Core

I am trying to change the heater core in my 95 GT. Do you have to take out the dash for this? Its proving to be a big pain in my ass. Thanks

So did you do it? I have had a blown core for over a year - just bipassed it. All the shops wanted 700 to 900 labor for it

Yeah, it's a royal pita. Some have had luck cutting a square hole in the housing for the heater core and getting it out that way, and just using some aluminum tape to reseal it when you get the new one it. That is how I would do it.

interesting! I was considering looking into something like that and its good to hear that it may be possible - and surprising at that considering it might be looked at as even a defect if the solution is that easy. I will look into that some more. Do you know anyone or anywhere I could check out to find 411?

I would highly suggest getting a OEM heater core. I bought a replacement from 50resto.com and compared to the ford part, it's not even close. I changed it out before I had a problem, and the OEM core looked near perfect. It is WAY better built, so much so, I considered putting the 10 year old OEM one in instead of the new replacement. I should have returned the replacement and got an OEM... don't want to do this job again soon...

FWIW - while the dash is out is a great time to install a clutch quadrant... super easy!
