Hi everyone,

I have a major problem with my 95 5.0. It has a random problem that is driving me crazy. I go out to start it and sometimes it starts and runs no problem and sometime not at all. When it does not start I get no spark from the coil. Then for no real reason it starts. Sometimes driving down the road it will just quit like you shut the key off. It dosen't seem to be temp related or moisture related. I have replaced the coil, Ign.module, cap and rotor and it still is happening.

Anone have this problem that can stear me in the right direction. I don't want to keep replacing parts with no sucess.

Thanks

Welcome to the boards!

Could be your PIP (profile ignition pickup) sensor in the distributor. One way to check this is to see if your injectors are firing when you are not getting spark. Use a noid light to check for injector firing. If the injectors are also not firing, you found the problem. But if the PIP is failing, alot of times it will throw a code, even if the CEL isn't on. Check your codes first.

If the PIP checks out fine, make sure your engine grounds are in good shape as well as the fuel pump ground cable.

Good luck

Read a manual that said to probe the green wire at the ign module while cranking to see if you are getting the hall effect ( flashing light) from the distrubutor. I did not get the flashing light althogh the pickup coil had 12V to it. So it stated that the pick-up coil is bad.
Trying that now.

Thanks for you input
