so I took my 1989 mustang out for a small drive and I immediately noticed that the brakes were really soft and I had to apply a lot of force for the car to fully stop. Once I noticed this, I brought the car right back home and pushed on the brake a few times and heard some noises until it went away. I looked under the car and fluid is leaking. Is this a bad master cylinder or can it be multiple things?

It can be anywhere in the system.... Pull the wheel off and have someone pump the pedal while you look for the leak

Prolly the flex line to the caliper, or the caliper itself.
It's ok, it will eventually stop.

You really want to wash that down as best you can because brake fluid will eat paint including the clear coat on your wheels.

I agree. track down the source of the leak and then put a hose on that.

A little soap and water and that mess will clean right up, I would make sure you clean the caliper area too, then you can replace that leaking flex hose. Oh, and replace the other side too .
