I have a 95 mustang 3.8 it's got 150466 or miles started about 3 Mo ago I've replaced radiator water pump 3 thermostats 3 caps and of late 6 gal of antifreeze it over heating under heating blew cap of once live I Iowa and it's getting cold I need much help please

Hey Will, welcome to stangnet.

It was kind of hard to understand your exact issue. Is your mustang overheating?

You mention it's getting cold, is that to say you don't have heat inside the cabin?

I'm going to move your thread to the '79-'95 tech section, there are people there that can help out.

Describe one symptom at a time for us, start a new line and describe the next. That will help us evaluate what we might think you can do to fix your problem.

Welcome to Stangnet.
When you fill the cooling system are you opening the bleeder?

Have you tried using a coolant fill cup to burp the system?

Most importantly have you checked/had it checked for blown headgasket(s)?

Good answer Chris. You understood what he was saying better than I did.

OK that y I'm confused for 1 thing every time I start it cold I'll be driving and I noticed it starts run like crap sputtering I look down Temp gauge be soring to the red so I'll turn the heat on it will blow cold then temp dropped and I have heat for a short time then it blows cold I stop add antifreeze but as soon I park 5 Min's take off and happens all over

That's what I'm afraid of is head gasket but she has a lot power still this is my curse I think. I've had for 3 years first week new fuel pump it has after market headers and duel exhaust 3 mufflers 2 middle section pipe tail pipe transmission been rebuilt there more but might start crying lol

Yes head gaskets,
I started to tell how to see if it was a malfuctioning thermostat, had instutions all wrote out,
Good thing I reread you post, boy would I have sounded dumb, wait, I just admitted, nevermind I confused again, but I do think you need to test for blown head gaskets, I seen them use the kit in post #3, also look for radiator fluid pulsating, just don't yank the radiator cap off when its hot, are you mechanically inclined?
Head gaskets 'ain't no joke' but can be done with minimal experience

hold on. Before we start saying bad HG, he could have a blocked radiator, a stuck thermostat. a collapsed hose, etc.

1. rent a coolant system pressure tester- see if you have any leaks in the system and the cap
2. check your hoses- the lower hose should have an anti collapse spring- old hoses collapse under pressure
3. Did you install the thermostat the correct way and check that it opens at the correct temp
4. check that there is no debri infront of the radiator and that the radiator is not clogged- I would flush it out
5. check that your fans are coming on
6. is there oil in the coolant or vice versa? are you blowing out white smoke? Smell sweet in the exhaust? Losing Coolant?
7. make sure you have burped all of the air out of the system as Chris said with a Lisle funnel
8. is your overflow attached and working properly

If all of this is done and you are still overheating you either have a bad HG, warped head, block, deck or cracked head/block and I would then rent the exhaust gas coolant tester.. Pray to the car Gods the fluid doesn't turn blue to green

I can read I'm smart my step dad was machnic but health issues but yes I can do most tools r limited as heat lol and 3 months off work with this neck sorry I drifted which brings me to another point ADHD

I'm thinking on old 302's 327 400 no problems broke em when I was lid now the a reason their not called mechanic anymore so I'm thinking no but I know people that have the knoledge they would show me but I'm freaking out when I had transmission redone $1400 then I'm told u can get crate motor for 1700

I'd to say I appreciate u guys helping me out I like that because good people are hard to find there is spring in bottom hose new radiator went through 3 thermostats before found one that would open new water pump I have not burb correctly I have drain whole system take off burb value above thermostat housing then what

Not be'n critical here but I'm not follow'n this conversation,
Are you driving this vehicle with overheating problems?
Slow down, maybe proof read what you write so an old guy like me can understand, adhd won't stop you from fix'n this, just take a breath and slow them fingers down.
Go back over the list in post #10 check off what you've done and check out the rest, post your results.
If you don't have one of them funnels and there is not a place on you thermostat to release the air, then try to jack up the front end as high as you can then add the fluids to the radiator maybe squeezing the radiator hose a few times to work the air out, take your time.

Can I buy a punctuation for $250 Vanna

I need you to answer these questions.

1.) Have you opened the coolant bleeder screw?

2.) Do you know where the coolant bleeder screw is?

IMG_1221.webp

3.) That's where/what it is up there.

My recommendation to you is to drain the cooling system the best you can. Take the bottom hose loose from the radiator and drain the coolant into a drain pan. Put the hose back on.Now would be a great time for you to have a no spill fill cup,but an ordinary funnel will work, just be a little messy lol.
Put the fill cup/funnel into the radiator and fill it with green antifreeze..
Open the Bleeder screw,it should start spitting water/coolant after a moment or so.. keep the fill cup/funnel 3/4 full and watch the bleeder screw-once it quits spitting and a solid stream of antifreeze comes out-Close the bleeder screw.
Start the car and turn the heat on.Wait for the thermostat to open (and the cooling fan to come on)and suck down the antifreeze, top it off and check the heat from the vents,it may be necessary to raise the idle a little for a minute. If it starts puking antifreeze there is still air in the system . Shut it off and fill the cup/funnel back up and let it sit until the coolant level drops. Repeat the bleed procedure if needed.

And if you still have trouble,it will be time to dig deeper into the cooling system and verify what is and what isn't working
