ok so I have an 89 lx 4cyl-8 conversion. My gas gauge does not work, and it was like that when I bought it. What I'd like to know is what are the usual probematic parts in the whole setup besides the sending unit itself. And wheres the cheapest place to get the sending unit?

Either the sending unit (most likely) or what Ford terms the "slosh module" on the back of the instrument cluster, but that would most likely cause more than 1 gauge to misfunction. I suppose one could check for power and ground at the plug in as well.
