Help!! Flooded underpass nightmare

add me to the inertia switch.... it cuts the fuel off but it might have enough to sputter off the road.

I drove it a half mile and restarted a couple times in order to get to a safe spot, so I'm doubtful there was enough fuel in the lines to get me that far if indeed the intertia switch tripped. The engine didn't make any strange/bad noises when running or trying to restart it, so I'm optimistic about the internals.

The insurance adjuster visited the car this morning and authorized the back end repairs and an engine diagnostic, and then the dealer will advise him on further repairs to the motor if needed. I'm glad for that, I was half expecting an insurance hassle over the engine stuff, but they seem ready to take care of it and the adjuster seems like a very reasonable guy. So things are looking up. As of 5:15 pm today (monday) the techs hadn't looked at the car, so it might be tomorrow before they start on it. I'm very interested to see what the issue is, and would be really happy if it just fired right up after a few days drying out, haha. I'll keep you guys posted, thanks for all the input!

if you test the schroder valve does any fuel come out? (key in run position)

if you have fuel theres no problems there.

did anything on the interior get flooded? if you got any water inside you may have fried the ECU

Nope, no water in the interior. The surprise and excitement of getting hit made me fail to even accurately guess how deep the water was, but as I said before, no water crashing over the hood or anything. The car's been at the dealer since about 2 hours after the accident and it was pouring rain terribly while I waited for the tow truck, so I haven't tested anything, the tech guys can take care of that. I'd post pictures but there's really not much to see. Just imagine a bumper crunched a little and cracked in a coupe spots, no damage to the tailights or anything. Still waiting to hear from Dean Sellers on any engine clues. I'll let you guys know.

Also, about what level was the water at while you were driving thru the huge puddle? At what height of the car was the water level at?

you probably sucked up a little water, got the maf wet and whatever else is in there and shorted 1 or 2 of them out... my friend got water in his Integra GS-R and ended up just having to take his plugs out and let it dry out for a day or two... he had gotten some water into the combustion chamber but it wasnt enough to hydrolock it and he hit this puddle at around 5 mph... im hoping you have the same problem and that its something stupid like water is bridgeing the gap on the sparkplugs...

Maybe one of the fuel lines in the back got kinked or pinched..?

I've also seen someone suck up some water, just enough to short the gap in the plugs and the car wouldnt start.. Do you know if they checked for fuel pressure?

Well I just went over to the dealership and chatted with the techs. You won't believe this... actually... some of you will

It was the freaking inertia switch after all. They flipped it and she fired right up. Dean Sellers Ford is as baffled as I am that I had enough fuel in the lines to drive a good 1/2-3/4 of a mile. They said normally when the inertia switch trips people barely have enough gas to get out of traffic to the side of the road and that's it. Everything else seems fine, they're gonna give it a good looking over but it sounds like it's ready to head over to the body shop and get patched up. Obviously I'm thrilled, just completely surprised there was enough gas in the line. Thanks for everyone's input!

Should be mounted in the back on the inside between the taillights.

good to hear bro.. I had something similar happen to me a few years ago.. I was driving kinda fast and came up on some really raggedy railroad tracks, couldn't slow down enough and went over them very very hard.. suddenly the car sputtered and shutdown.. couldn't get it started.. so I got it towed home and it just sat there for like 3 days while me and my friends "poured" over the engine tryin to figure out what happened.. My dad comes out and says "pop the trunk".. popped it he depressed the fuel shutoff and VROOMMMM started right up.. talk about feelin like a doofus lol...
