Thread 'Code 95. What is considered the Secondary fuel pump circuit'

So I have the legendary stumble, hiccup, misfire... what ever you wanna call it issue. Comes up with code 95. So what is considered the "secondary fuel pump circuit" vs primary. The only other codes are egr.

Code 96, Post #4:

Thread 'Code 96 Repair:'

Apr 1, 2011
Got a code 96 on a 1990 Mustang GT. Replaced the fuel pump relay and got the pump from running on continuously. But, for some reason, I keep getting the Code 96 after wiping the memory. Checked wires on secondary circuit. In the process of replacing the EEC relay. All wires on relay read battery/alternator voltage as they should and Pin 19 reads the same so I am unsure what is causing the problem. The tan/green wire that goes to Pin 22 is reading 1.40 volts at the fuel pump relay and 1.15 volts at ECU Pin number 22 ... this doesn't seem right from what I have read. Also, the car...

Yes I actually found those 2 posts while I was looking for information on my codes. I am getting like 2 volts at the pink/black wire which is strange, but I’m getting 12 volts at orange/blue.

I was looking more stuff up last night and saw a post someone said that you can jump the test connection for fuel pump up front and it should cause the fuel pump to run?

Could it be the switch got triggered like if you got rear ended? The one on the inside up behind the taillights? I remember I was parallel parked overnight once and tried to start my mustang the next morning and it just kept cranking and cranking, finally figured out the car behind me must’ve bumped me trying to get out and triggered that switch.

The switch is good. Checked that.

That is the inertia switch and they are notorious for causing issues. He addressed it in the 3rd paragraph in first post.

Well, the weather in Florida sucks and has been pouring all day. Wasn’t able to drop the tank. I have work tomorrow, so I will try on Monday if the weather cooperates.

Fair enough! Can’t complain about the weather here too much I guess

Hopefully I can enjoy this badass car soon! Would love to get some modifications done to it once I get it running again. It’s completely stock other than an aftermarket intake, and a cat-back that my grandfather installed many years ago.

I enjoy my car and it’s pretty much stock except for some bolt ons, gears, and suspension, and it’s super fun to drive. I have plans for some more down the road, but get out there, drive it, and enjoy it!

I’ve always had trouble with the hose on those pumps curling up, and then they’re not getting to the bottom of the tank. Anybody have any tricks that worked to get that hose all the way to the bottom?

I have the same one. A trick i found is to put a brass air chuck fitting on the end of the tube. It goes through and comes out of the filler neck fine. You also get that satisfying clunk when it hits the bottom of the tank! Works great actually.

You may want to check your computer. There are 3 capacitors that are known to corrode and go bad which will impact your fuel pump. Car will turn over but will never start. I did the whole troubleshooting with the relay, fuel pump, spark and finally took out the computer and found one of the capacitors corroded. Got another computer from a local guy and started right up. You can fix your computer for about $10 if you can solder and buy the capacitors. Tons of videos on YouTube with instructions.

He has 12v+ to the pump so it’s not an ECU issue with regards to the pump running.

This post and others just like it offer a curious insight into those of us who own these cars. None of us think a battery or an alternator, or a starter will last forever, but most of us are surprised when we discover that the computer, who has been subjected to various voltage inputs and vibration, heat, and other Conditions that computers don’t like, has to be inspected and repaired. I sent mine also to the same ECU exchange site and came back with a wonderful computer that has given me no trouble since. I just think it’s interesting when people want to change any other part of the car except suspect that the almost 40-year-old computer may be at fault lol.
