Here's the deal, im about to buy a parts car(1986 hatchback 5.0) for 300 bucks, he says he wants a lot more(as in thousands more) if we leave the police interceptor motor in it, which he says has 50 miles on it, the intake is off, all the injection is missing and wires cut, basically a longblock in the car with no accessories...in about the middle of the block on the side walls kinda under the heads there is 3 X's in raised letters there (X X X) and they bend like a rainbow shape, he said anybody who knows anything about ford knows this is a police interceptor motor...blahblahblah...anyway is this true?? my 302 is getting tired and i'd rather do a 351 swap, but if this is easier, cheaper and better i might buy the engine too, it has shorty headers and the engine looks otherwise stock...but i cant really tell. is there anything you guys know?? Thanks a bunch and i plan on buying the car soon, after i make a deal on whos pulling the motor

Police interceptor motor, ha?

A 5.0 HO is a 5.0 HO is a 5.0 HO. There were no internal differences between motors used in SSP mustangs and ones sold to the public. The only differences that I know of are the heavy duty alternators, bigger sway bars and I believe that they had either an oil cooler or a power steering cooler.

But the engines are the same. No different cams, heads or anything like that. Please anybody who knows Fords knows this is a police interceptor motor. I don't think that he knows Fords. Why would Ford build an entirely different engine for a car that was produced in such small numbers.

If I am wrong someone let me know but I don't think that I am.

Another vote for what you have said...

so whats the deal with the 3 X's?? i checked out the car more today, i dont believe it was a police interceptor model car, just the motor he says..the front sway bar looks bigger, he says it has "roush suspension" and the previous owner put like 6-8K into the car, since then it went to hell and back, i mean trashed, theres no radiator, heater hoses, or anything to tell me...so yeah he also says it has "202 heads" whatever those are?? i have no idea, but 300 for a parts car with 50K or 150K miles isn't bad, especially if it has a "new clutch" like he says..comes with a functioning T5 tranny too and good wheels(i have the SROD 4spd and metric wheels with bald tires..) so that alone is worth 300, the body is mostly straight, and correct me if im wrong but didnt the 86's come with the best seats?? the drivers seat in the back left corner rusted through the floor and it sits on a chunk of wood..all in all it's a good deal, i'll pull the motor tomorrow and set it in his yard, no title with the car either, if you guys want something LMK, i also think it has the 8.8" rear diff, my 82' has a 7.5", right? something like that..also it has quad shocks i think, that little shock that runs front to back off the top of the rear axle to around the fuel tank...anyway let me know what you think, and if any of your 302's have the 3 X's under the intake, he says the previous owner had dyno sheets for 400 ft. lb. or torque and 425HP...i call BS but whatever, cheap is cheap, thanks guys again you rock!!:SNSign:

I have one block in my garage right now with "YYY" and one in my car right now with "XXX". Anyone know the difference? My guess is the foundry or destination for type of vehicle, (Mustang, LTD, Fiesta -jk).

the "202" heads mean that it has heads with a 2.02" intake valve. They are larger valves than the stock heads so if thats true then someone had larger valves installed in the stock heads or it has aftermarkets heads on it.

thanks for the XXX info and 2.02" intake valve, tomorrow i pull the motor since its kinda fathers day...maybe i can make a deal fo the heads, my book says they're E6AE heads, only made in 86...any better than my stockers?? thanks again

If you look at the casting #s on the heads and they are indeed the stock E6 heads don't even bother with them. They were only on Mustangs for 1 year for a reason. I would save my money and see if you can't get a good set of aluminum heads or get a good price on some GT40 or GT40P heads. Say away from the E6s.

thanks, i saw 302 and 2V under the valve cover but thats it..should i write down the numbers for ya?? basically this motor is a stocker, and nothing better than i have now, it does have some funky looking shorty headers im gonna try to get(all i have now is cast steel manifolds, not even stock headers, but i do have a mean exhaust leak on the passenger side i intend to fix, again), along with the starter for a spare and all clutch items, thanks again you guys are the best!!

well i pulled the motor, and set him straight on the motor...got the tranny here and picking up the car today, the T5 works perfect, and a new clutch with it, so yeah not a bad deal, how do you tell a stock T5 from a world class T5?? it's probably internal and i cant see without opening it up but it's worth a shot, you guys are awesome i probably wouldent be this far without :SNSign:
