I just bought a used low mileage tremec tko with pro 5.0 shifter. Should be here next week. I need to get a clutch for it. Obviously its a 26 spline input shaft. I do NOT want a spec, so don't recommend that. I am looking into centerforce or mcleod (not the twin disk). Where can I find mcleod clutches? I need something that has a softer pedal feel than my fms HD that i've been running for 5 years now.

Not sure where you heard spec is the best, but I doubt that. All the tranny sellers and builders including d&d recommend AGAINST metallic clutches because they hit too hard and shock the drivetrain.

Im pretty much set on the mcleod single disk.

Hows the clutch cable geometry with a stock tremec bell and stock fork? Should I consider an extended fork?

Mike guys don't recommend a Stage 3 disc with a Proshifted tranny because of how vioent it can be. However SPEC makes various disc materials, and a lot of guys use a Stage II disc Kevlar. Others like the Centerforce or Clutchmasters or if you have high dollar go to Cinergen.

Like I said DF all the way. As for geometry is the exact same, but I do recommend changing the fork because of the miles. My stock one had a cracked retaining ring where it stays on the ball. You can get a heavy duty one for like $40, but you can have mine for $20.

Hey Rikki! I've heard that also. Makes me nervous. I think the reason mine has survived is because the car doesn't dead hook. On the street if I powershift a gear, it just smokes the tires. Even at the track with 10 psi in the ET Streets, it still spins between gears. I've been running the same Stage III disc and pressure plate for 4 years now. Crazy thing doesn't wear out. I agree, go with a SPEC II. I'd definately stay away from Centerforce.

I run the AFM hi-rev clutch with my TKO and I love it. Nice smooth pedal feel with quick and easy engagement. I drive the car on the street almost daily and have had no problems, and it's good for 7,600rpm's. I had to have it for my 331 because I shift at 7,100. But I would recommend it for a milder motor also because of it's good manners.

nobody has said anything about Zoom clutches. i'm running a multi-friction one and i like it much better than the spec that i had before. (the spec clutch was probably the downfall of that t-5 too, lol)

I just got off the phone with d&d performance. I told them what I had and what my car was making. I said 300hp on motor and maybe 400hp if I run nitrous again. They recommended the King Cobra with the 26 spline disk. Heres the ad- "70% more capacity than stock..$269..Kevlar on flywheel side; organic on pressure plate side of disc"

Im gonna order all that I need soon. Clutch, aluminum driveshaft with 31 spline yoke (beats paying $75 for just the yoke and reusing old shaft) tremec bellhousing and speedo gear. While im ordering, should I get a new fork? If so, extended or stock size? Anything else i'm missing? Pilot bearing? (what is this) I'll get a new rear main seal too. Do I need any new bolts or dowel pins?

Mike

don't need any bolts or dowel pins

get the rear main, get the pilot bearing. the pilot bearing is what goes into the very end of the crankshaft that the very tip of the input shaft from the trans seats into.

Very interesting debate about clutches. I, too am not a very big spec fan. All the shops I have been too highly recommend against them also, but because of the chattering issues, they won't sell them for this reason as well.

Normally, I would highly recommend against the king cobra, especially for your higher output, however, the disc you mention seems better than the standard king cobra, as the standard KC disc is all organic from what I understand. Do you know anything more about this disc?? sounds pretty good.

keep the stock length clutch fork. If you're nervous about your old one, buyfordracing.com (diversified) sells an oem style clutch fork brand new with a brand new oem non adjustable cable for $39 or so, can't beat that deal.
