Probably will drag the car 5 nights per year max. Mods in sig.

I'm thinking of going with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 for street and strip use. Question, if I'm still on stock 17x8 rims, am I going to get enough traction with 245/45 zr17s? What if I step up to 255/45 zr17s? I'm about to need new everday tires on the stang anyway. I'm thinking just get 4 of the GS-D3s. Would cost more to get 2 additional wheels and tires for the track, plus another set of 4 tires for everyday use. I also don't have the money for a new rear axle, which is another reason I'm shying away from the drag radials on strip only rims.

Four Goodyear GS-D3 255/45 zr17s my best option? What do you recommend?

You might as well get new wider rims anyway. Theyll cost much less than your new tires. I'm upgrading to 18x10 rears next time I buy tires (soon). I'm thinking 295/35/18 Goodyear F1 GSD3.

Im in the same boat, I just got some Bullitts to replace the stocker Star looking rims I have grown to hate to clean every other day.

Two rims came with some newer Michelin Pilots 245/45/17 I want to use in the front

What is the biggest (widest) I can use on that stock 17x8 Bullitt?

the widest tires i have ever seen on a 17x8 rim is 315's and they were the ultimate protection for curbs. but a 255 will fit on the back with a small overhang. i would not advise putting them on the front(i did that and the car handled like crap on the highway) and try bfgoodrich g force kd's they gripped for me and the lasted 25k then the supercharger killed them

In my research, I've read that the tread width should be within + or - 1/2 inch of the rim you put it on. Based on that, 255 seems to be the widest you should put on a 17x8. Others have put 275s on without issues, but its generally not recommended by the tire manufacturers.

 WHAT??? When I had 275s on the 17x8 wheel I thought that was wide:shrug:
