Help me get rid of "rake" look with frpp "C" springs

Ok, heres the deal. I used new iso's all the way around. Top and bottom. I do not want to remove them either. The instructiions that came with the springs said to "cut" them if you are not happy witht the look so I assume ford racing has done there homework and its ok to cut the rear springs. I can get 2 fingers between the front wheel well and tire and 4 fingers in the rear. I guess thats about an inch difference. How much do i cut off the rears and how. If i cut them then i will be losing the flat spot on the top of the springs which will suck. Here are pictures of the springs, so maybe someone could put them in "paint" and put a line on where about i sould cut the springs to lower the car in the rear another inch. Thanks

did you drive the car around for a week? the springs will settle a bit.

i have the C springs on mine and it sits pretty low with no rake to it.

yeah bro. The front settled alot but the rear is up in the air like a jack rabbit. It looks rediculous. I know its not gonna drop much more. I even threw about 300 pounds of weights in the back and let it sit in the gargae for a week and still thats the result.

I have the same problem with my c-springs. I'm also curious to find ou how you can properly trim the springs.

I have heard 1 coil = 1 inch. I have never done it but thats just what I heard. Maby you should put the 300l;bs back in it and drive it around for a week or so. Once you cut the springs you cant weld it back.

I actually kinda like the very slight rake they gave mine...but anyway.

Since the rear springs have different dimensions top and bottom, you'll want to cut from the consistant side (the bottom). Figgure out how much you want to drop it, and realize if you just cut the flattened peice off, its not really going to change. You'll have to move up past that flattened peice. Maybe cut right after the flat part and use a bench grinder to flatten the remaining spring so that it can seat properly?

I have KBs Trackit Brackets... they relocate the lower control arm mounting point.. and lower the rear 1/2"

is the rake worse than this? this was my 92 with "C" springs: (yes its sitting slightly downhill but you can see the rake if you pay attention to wheel gaps)

but at 65mph it looked like this:

i always thought it was interesting...

I wish mine looked like yours. Put it this way, I can see my shock absorbers.

wtf is the matter with mine then. You guys cars look good. I mac upper and lower control arms on, kyb shocks and quad shocks and new iso's on. That was my end result (ass up in the air). Iso's must stay in the car. Im thinking i may have to cut. Just dont know where to start

did you reuse your stock isolators? or did you use aftermarket ones?

I'm planning on pulling out my rear isolators one of these days and see how it sits and rides. I'd be happy with about 1/2" lower in back on mine (it's the blue one in the above thread).

thanks for the link. I looked at your pics. Mine seems to be a tad higher. My car is my dream project and I want everything done perfectly meaning I dont want to take out the isos and have metal on metal contact. That cant be good through time. Somebody has to have cut springs before. I wish they would chime in

I cut a rear set of C springs a few years ago. Don't worry about the flat spot on the end of the spring. Just cut 1/2 coil, see where it sits. If it's still too high, cut another 1/2 coil.

well. I did what i should have done in the first place. Searched yahoo about ford "c" springs. Almost everyone with a fox that has them and keeps isos cuts the dead coil off the top just as shown in this link:

drps the fox a full inch in the rear to match the front.

Alot of people who have the C springs seem to have this problem. I have Eibachs in my car and I think the stance is perfect. BTW the springs in my car are over 5 years old and the car still has the same height as the day they were installed.

+1 for Eibachs.

Correct! At MOST front springs should set no more than 0.25". Anything more and it's likely the insulators compressing or the spring moving down in the cup.

Call up *any* spring manufacturer and just ask.

Also, tires WEAR and change diameter with air pressure and temp. So, when you read on the web about springs "setting", keep in mind that most people are not mechanical engineers and they do *not* know about all of the factors that go into proper measurements.

You can raise the front of your car by 1/4" with front spring spacers from Steeda. You have to call or order from their paper catalog. They are ~$7 each. You can put a max of one per side. Put the spacer between the insulator and the k-frame.
