I going to buy some heads , but I don't know much about them, I mean which one is good for money, my plan after heads are blower orturbo (meybe some juice to) and I hopeso that gonna hold stock short block
So what you say which heads are good
BTW don't post GT40 iron or GT40P heads and don't talk about cam now (thread about cam gonna be after we find heads for me)
Thanks guys

Hey Ernie,

ALOT of guys are having great sucess with the AFR 165 heads on here. They seem to be putting out the most HP with just a H/C/I install. If you are definitely going with a supercharger or a turbo, I would go with the AFR 185's though. Just my .02 :nice:

i found that thread i told you about. message me or gimme and email addy and ill give you all the info. here is some of the specs and i can give a number/email for you to talk to the guy if you want :)

Stage 3 Ported Edelbrock Performer 5.0 Heads for sale (they will out flow Trick Flow and AFR 185cc out of the box....they have less than 3000 miles on them....have all receipts of head work and inspection - DSS and R&R Engineering)..... $1000

last year the MMFF magazines did a huge comparison of heads from the august 2003 edition thru the january 2004 edition. i would recommend checking them out.

fwiw, i have the trick flow street heat and plan on getting the twisted wedge heads when i do my 331/347 stroker rebuild in a few years.

I would go with the Trickflow over the Edelbrock heads and AFR if staying N/A. I did a little bit of research on it. Edelbrocks can only have 1.9 valves on them without hitting the pistons, but the trickflow's design allows for a bigger 2.02 valve to be run without have PTV clearance issues. Do you own research. Most people here only have experience with one type of heads, and so do I. Do you own research and find the best for your combo. Supercharged/Turbo AFR 185. N/A twisted wedge in my opinion.

TFS, there awesome heads, everybody and there mother has AFR

That's funny. I guarantee that there are more sets of TW's out there than AFR's. The TW have been around since the early '90's, the AFR's didn't come out until ~97. TW was the "gold standard" so to speak until the AFR's came along. Both are great heads, I personally prefer AFR, but to say that everyone and their mother has AFR's compared to TW's has me rolling on the floor!!!

Hey Paul I been waiting for you to post here, thanks
I been reading about AFR 165 and 185 heads and looks like TW are litlle bigger that AFR 165/185 , So what you think what is the better for my, I gonna stay with 3.73 and everything in sign ,plus one day I have plan put blower or turbo on stock short block, so what you sayin'

Bigger is not necessarily better. I would run the afr 165's and that's it. I went through the same thing you are going through right now about 2 years ago. I decided on the afr's, because of their better flow data and they seem to be on some of the fastest cars on here or the corral. ie. Mr. Canary.

I know you said don't talk cam specs now, but they go hand in hand. I would find someone you trust, for example Ed Curtis @ Flowtech Induction. I spoke to a lot of people before I bought my set up and decided that Ed seemed to know just a little more than the other guys. That is one decision I am glad I made.

Anyway, good luck and come join the good guys with the Afr's.

Seth, trust me, you do not want to start a TW vesus AFR head debate... you remember the thumper post right... this debate will be even worse. You are the search KING on stangnet, there has to be at least a dozen threads on AFR versus TW. I will not go into it because I do not care to be involved with the flame fest that will ensue.

But since you asked me, I wouldn't put anything besides AFR's on my car. The 165 is perfect for a 302 cubed motor. On a stroker the AFR185 is the better choice. I'm 90% positive that you can not run the AFR185 on the stock shortblock due to its 2.02" intake valve. I say 90% because I have read of guys putting them on and getting away with it, but I know AFR says they won't fit. Your car is heavy, so your mods should concentrate on how to make the most power and torque possible. You're already off to a good start with the long tubes and such. I, like Charlie, think you need to look at your plans as a combo and think about the cam now. Its so much easier to do a cam swap with the stuff already off to do a headswap. You know who I prefer when it comes to cams and such too... Ed C. Feel free to ask me any question you want on this matter, but I won't get into the TW versus AFR debate... its a topic that has been murdered here.

this i what little i know about fitting the 185's on a stock short block they have 2.02 valves so yes they might bolt on and clear with the stock cam but after that you are going to run into clearance issues thats why i went with the 165's and my car makes ok power with them , do you know whats funny paul and i put ours together around the same time , and we didn't even know that we both went with afr heads. we both choose these after doing our own reaserch and i'm happy with my choice and i know he is too! :spot:

On a 302, I would go with AFR 165s or the new Edlebrock's and a FTI cam. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I'm still trying to decide for sure on what heads I'll use for my 357........Anyone who has any advice, feel free to PM me!

how much boost and are you going to stay on the stock block? I was going to do the afr 165's and fti cam but I'm just waiting till next year and doing a chp 331 with a turbonetics t type turbo. I know the afr's wouldn't flow good enough for that application and the n/a ground cam wouldn't be working as well as a custome ground cam for boost. Just think about what your wanting to do before you go spending your money.

AND looks like I find what I need and thats AFR 165

NOW NEXT QUESTIONS

-What is better Stud or Pedestal

-Stud, 58cc vs Stud, 61cc vs Pedestal, 60cc

BTW thanks Paul for "You are the search KING on stangnet" but some peolpe getting mad when I post in some old post :(
