Are your current pistons notched? I might look into the AFR's over the TFS heads, since the valves on the Twist Wedge heads will be canted and may not line up with the notches in the pistons. The X303 is a pretty radical cam, so the only way to know for certain would be to test fit the heads with it.

I have the factory valve reliefs in the pistons.... I'd really like the AFRs, just have to check the PTV clearance.... Maybe I'll look into a set... what do most guys run Combustion chamber size-wise?? 62cc?? If I buy heads, I'd rather do it once.... my next motor build will probably be a 331.

Thanks

Just curious, but have you actually ran this engine yet? Seems to me that E6 heads and an X303 cam might have piston to valve issues as it is?

62cc's shoud put your around stock compression if I'm not mistaken. If you're going to keep this engine N/A, I might consider going with the 58cc versions just for a little more "crunch". A little added compression will keep throttle response crisp and help things on the low and mid ranges of the power band.

Truth be told, I'm not a fan of the alphabet cams either, but I realize you're on a budget here and those heads need addressing a lot worse than the cam does.

no, the engine is still in pieces. I'm just gettin all my parts together before I start building it. I was plannin on checkin valve clearance though. I'll be stayin N/A for a while so I like the idea of the 58cc. I'm not a fan of the alphabet cams either, but the cam I was originally gonna buy was gonna run me about $700 for the K kit from Comp.... this cam was only $185 thru a local shop and had similar specs so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm hoping I can get the E6's to work for now until I get the money for the heads..... I really wanna get this car on the street.... but we'll see. Once again, I appreciate all the help y'all have given me. I feel stupid for selling my P heads for these now.

Dude I had an X303 with Performer RPM heads and 10.5:1 compression bump. I had to have mine flycut at the machine shop, dropping me to 10:1 comp. Your going to have issues wit hthe rockers and cam wit hstock pistons. Sell that thing and get a TFS Stage 1 cam.

I think you're probably being way generous (about 40-50hp) in your estimates. Remember, he's still pushing this all through stock iron heads....and a set of non-HO E6 castings on top of that. Ported or not, he can have all the suporting parts in the world, but with a cork like that in the system, he's never going to break 300hp in N/A form.

I didn't think that the E6's, even ported, would be that bad so maybe I was being too generous after all. I'll revise my estimate to 280-285hp in which case, 19lb injectors would be fine.

what kinda issues do you mean.... gimme a little more detail.... its hard for me to take advise without knowing why its being given..... and "your going to have issues" doesn't really tell me anything.

By issues, he means piston to valve clearance.

Thank you. I'm gonna clay them after I put them on just to make sure, but I'm gonna give them a shot if they clear..... if not, I think I'm gonna go the AFR 165/58cc route

I figured I'd post in this thread instead of startin a new one. I ended up having my E7s machined to fit the dual valve springs and valvetrain, I had them cut for bigger valves (1.94 and 1.55 i think. I'm bad with numbers) and they have been ported a good amount. So this is help in the flow department and since I got the poting done for Free I saved a TON of money. I ended up returning the pistons and kept the stockers b/c they were in good shape after a thorough inspection and cleaning..... still think I'm gonna have PTV clearance issues? also, you think I'll be able to break into the 300hp range?

Thanks,

If by 300 you mean 300rwhp, not a chance.
You could sink every dollar you have into a 302 with E7 heads and not come out with 300rwhp.
For rwhp, i'd say anything over 265rwhp is a victory with E7's.
