ok heres whats going on. my 94 gt is in the body shop getting a whole new paint job after having been a "minor" fron end collision. the cars current paint is fords E-9 laser red.I really want to go with a lighter, brighter red, and i have narrowed it down to 3 names for this color or colors. I have heard of
Torch red, Rio red, and Perfomance red. my bodyman down here in cleburne texas sprayed a little of the paint that he thinks might be the color im looking for on a preped peice of sheet metal, and it looks a little on the orange side,
not to mention a little pasty and tomatoish. Here is the favor im asking from you guys. Those of you with red 94-98 mustangs ( not the darker, e-9 lazer red color) could you please Post pics of your cars with the paint codes on your post as well.If you would REALLY like to help me out, post a pic of the sticker located on the door jamb (i forget if its on the driver or passenger side door jamb or maybe in the glove box) as well as the pics of your Red mustang. I have also seen a couple of ford rangers that i think may have the same paint color, as they were manufactured in the same period.Im having real trouble finding this paint code and color, and any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated, as I only have 3 days to come up with the code due to the body shop's time and workload constraints. The car has already been in there for 3 weeks, and they want to get this done and over with.

Here is a pic of Rio Red, E8:

The orange looking one you are talking about is more than likely Vibrant Red ES. That is what my car is although I dont have pics on here to share. IMO Laser red is the one that's crap and your probably talking about Rio Red. I like Rio red but that laser color looks weak. It belongs on a taurus.

thanks for your help guys but im also trying to figure out the EXACT code because in the bodyshops paint book there are two variations of the brighter red. one is a more expensive tri-coat, one is not.i wanna go with cheaper one cause i think it might look better. What i mean by exact code is this.
when i looked in the book it had 2 e-8's. the freakin sample paint chip next to it is so small you cant even tell them apart, plus they are sprayed on card board. the code in the book will be something like... E-8.PHSTS (these are just examples and not the real ones) and then the next one which also has its own paint sample next to it might say E-8.ENJHP or something like that, and these are all for a 94 ford mustang, which it says at the top of the page.
So the bodyman is like, "well, here are the codes and their samples, which one do you want?" and since im paying the man like $2700.00 by the time all this is done, i want to get it right and not be dissapointed and stuck with a color i dont like.

I know what you mean on the color...mines E8 Rio Red.....when I went for the paint i also couldn't find E8.....I wanted PPG paint...they had no E8???? their version was called Vermillion Red....So thats what I got....It matched my color..

Your after the Vibrant Red from the sounds of it...are you buying the paint or him??? take a trip to where your gonna buy the paint...they can deciper the BS code stuff....Its wack as the guy said he could mix a Tri-coat in E8, which we didn't want to paint a Tri...but PPG in base/clear was Vermillion...Go figure....either way mine matched and the dude mixxing the paint knew what i was after....go talk to someone who mixes the stuff and the brand your gonna use...your paint guy must just order it anyway and hopefully its local to you...

Laser Red is a 3 stage paint, I dont think the other 2 reds are. The 3 stage means two stages of different shades of red and a coat of clear. Laser Red cant just be sprayed on in a single stage. This is the different stages of laser red when I painted my engine bay.

Stage 2 (copper-red mix)

Stage 3 (clear)

Ahhhh...Thats what the Tri means... :nice:

My paint was pure color in the can...looked perfect...sprayed the car...it looked almost purple..... :bang: Lay the clear to it.....Ahhhhh, much better..

Agreed! I don't like the metallic flake in the red.

I also believe that rio red E8 is a tri-stage. I had a buddy who worked at a paint store who got me some extra paint (was going to do a hood) and it was tri-stage (2 reds).
