I've been considering the Nitto 555R for my next tire. First of all how long do they last? Second I've heard that if you go with a tire too wide it can actually cause you to lose traction. I've got 17X8 inch rim. 245 is O.E.M. width. Should i go with 245, 255, or 275?

That's really personal. I think 275's are too wide in front, but others would not agree. If I were you, you might want to consider 255's in front and 275's in back. However, the 275's may not fit on your rims. The stock rims on the GTs are actually 7.5 inches wide and not 8 as most people think. Do you have after-market rims?

Do you loose traction with wider tires, of course not...on dry pavement. Wider tires allow for more rubber contact which generally increases traction. However, wider tires hydro-plane easier and suck in the snow. A narrower tire is always better for the snow.

I've been wondering the same thing also... what is the widest tire you can run out back with the stock rims? id like to go more than 245 but not more than 275. However, ive heard that 275 is not safe on our stock rims...what would be a good tire with sizes in the 255 and 265 ranges?

Thanks for the responses. I actually have O.E.M. bullets on the right hand side, and replacement fordmotorsport bullets on the left. I did this cuz i hit a curb a couple months back and had to replace to wheels. The new ones are a slightly different color so i put the new on one side and old on the other so they are the same color when you see either side of the car. Are they different sizes? Because the new ones i got were advertised as 17X8

My first set lasted almost 25K miles. I'm pretty easy on them though.
