I am installing the Autometer 7001 Gauge Cluster in my 02 GT. I followed the instructions to the letter including disconnecting the neg batt terminal. The install was rather easy. The problem is when I turned the ignition to "on" all gauges went ot their normal position except the tach. It went to the pin at 8000RPM. Turning it off it backs off the pin and points to 8000. I tried starting it and it did not make a difference.

Any clues before I take it all apart and put the stock cluster back in? Thanks in advance for your help.

I ahd a similar problem when i installed mine. Autometer replaced it twice. Finally, the third cluster I installed worked. The downside is that I had to pay the shipping back to autometer. The problem I had was the speedo getting stuck at 50mph and the tach stuck at 8k.

I was afraid that I would have to do that. I was hoping that there was a fix. I actually bougt it from a StangNet Banner ad company called SS Inserts. They had it for $399.99. I am really really bummed out. Taking this apart is PITA and I'll have to see if Autometer will back up the unit as I bought it from SS Inserts. Hopefully they will. Maybe I should just get overlays...

Thanks

As long as you provide them with a copy of your receipt they will honor the warranty. I bought mine from an eBay vendor that wanted nothing to do with a defective unit. See if SS Inserts is willing to exchange the defective unit for aonther one. As far as I know Autometer doesn;t sell directly to the public, but they will replace their products under warranty.

Decided to take a chance and fix it myself.

With the cluster on my static free workbench, I pried open the Autometer case and gently spun the Tach indicator around from 8000 to 0 RPM. I then re-installed the cluster into the GT. It worked!! I may need to fine tweak the tach or the speedomoter as one is still off a bit. I know this because in 4th gear the speedo and the tach were previously at the same angle and now they are off slightly. I will go out later and set the cruise for 60MPH and time a flat straight mile to see if the tach or the speedo needs a little calibration. I think it's the speedo as the tach looks right at idle (850 RPM) but we'll see.

Thanks to you guys for your help and suggestions.
