when I did mine, I had to used a special puller to take it out, it kinda looks like a long 90 degree pick and has a night stick like handle that u tap with a hammer. worked for me.

Did you get the puller from a parts store?

I went through the same thing a few months back. I just opted to get a rebuilt tranny. It was easier than pulling the tail shaft and other crap.

If you can't rent or borrow the correct puller, you can support the tranny under the bottom of the case and pull the tailshaft housing off carefully, then slip it back on without disturbing anything else.

except the shifting rail goes into the tailhousing, then you'd have to beat out the roll pin along with removing the shifter and then you'd have alot of fun if your tranny was still in the car.......good luck.....
I have alway beat the bushing out with the housing off the tranny since i didn't think it was possible to be pulled out the end where the seal sits

Not what I wanted to hear, I am going to try just a new seal first, if that does not do it then I'm only out a few bucks and will try again later.

I also needed to replace my tailshaft bushing while I was doing my heads and cam swap. I heard you needed the tool and I sure as hell didn't have one so I just took the tranny to a tranny shop and they charged me like $20 bucks including the bushing....pretty cheap and it's better than me messing with it not knowing what the hell I'm doing
