when I did mine, I had to used a special puller to take it out, it kinda looks like a long 90 degree pick and has a night stick like handle that u tap with a hammer. worked for me.
Do I need to pull the tailshaft out to get the bushing out or will the tool do it for me? If I do need to pull the tailshaft what do I need to what for?
If you can't rent or borrow the correct puller, you can support the tranny under the bottom of the case and pull the tailshaft housing off carefully, then slip it back on without disturbing anything else.

except the shifting rail goes into the tailhousing, then you'd have to beat out the roll pin along with removing the shifter and then you'd have alot of fun if your tranny was still in the car.......good luck.....
I have alway beat the bushing out with the housing off the tranny since i didn't think it was possible to be pulled out the end where the seal sits
I also needed to replace my tailshaft bushing while I was doing my heads and cam swap. I heard you needed the tool and I sure as hell didn't have one so I just took the tranny to a tranny shop and they charged me like $20 bucks including the bushing....pretty cheap and it's better than me messing with it not knowing what the hell I'm doing
