Well... I'll try my best to keep this short. Last week, my tranny was dumping fluid. As soon as I put more in, it came right back out. I inspected. It appeared to be coming from between the tailhousing and main case. On the lift, I found out otherwise. There was a hole on the upper side of the casting..... about the size of a penny. Well, I was going to pull it and have it aluminum welded, but the guy going to do it said he couldn't because it was into the casting crease. So I had a steel patch put on it with some kind of good sealant. That fixed it. For a few days. I knew there had to be something internal..... but it still shifted fine and made no noise. Until today.

Driving home today the most aweful "clunking" noise started. It won't take off in 1st without shaking you to death and making an extremely loud noise. the noise and vibration smooths out and get a little quieter as you progress through the gears. I dunno what's wrong with it. But I can't drive it. Bad.

So should I just get a new tranny? The casing is jacked up..... could I get core? And what should I go with? I want something good for @ least 350HP. I guess G-force isn't an option for me??? How hard are TKO swaps? Any write-ups on this? And where can I get the best deal on one?

Thanks.

Okay.... I'm about to give up. This really sucks and I don't know what to do. I'm about to just go find a used T-5 at a junk yard. I definitely want something stronger.... but I need it A.S.A.P. I've done several searches.

Okay... a TKO 500. Is this a strong, smooth shifting tranny? What all will I need?

I have no experience with TKO's but I heard they were a little notchy. If you are going to stay at 350-400 hp for a while, I would get a stock WC T-5 from ebay or something. I have a friend that had a T-5 rebuilt with the D&D 2.95 cluster and rebuild kit and he went 10.50's with nitrous every weekend for two years until the trans broke. I should add that he is a very good shifter and NEVER misses a gear but I think the same trans will last a while for you if you don't totally abuse it. Then when it needs a rebuild, go with a G-Force T-5. The only questions I have about the G-Force is if the case is as strong as the internals.

Actually the case is not as strong as the internals...It starts flexing to the point where things can pop out of place at about 600hp... but then again I am making somewhere between 300-400 hp so thats not a problem for me. Also, if does not add any weight to the car like just about any other tranny you get. Honestly, I dont know of anything lighter for our cars than a stock tranny. The only gripe is that its a bit whiny, but if you have an aftermarket exhaust it wont be a bother. If you get any of the tremecs, expect to gain about 50 lbs.
