I had American Thunder exhaust - no cats, and an X-Pipe (can't remember which) on my 89. I have a 91 now, all stock, and going to put on an exhaust. Any suggestions? I liked the way my 89 sounded, but not sure if there is a better combination. I am not going to put headers on this car, I am going to leave the motor stock.

If your motor is stock with 2 or 4 cats just cut the muffs off. It sounds great, I use to run it and it sounded great. Cost like $40 to cut off and replace the muffs with pipe, real easy

If you have a stock cam, keep the cats and remove the muffs and replace with pipe.

Do you want to leave cats on the car or move to an off-road mid pipe?

If you want to throw a mid pipe and cat back on it I really like the magnaflow sound quality. If you want to be quick and cheap go with what Grabbin' said

You can likely pick up an aftermarket setup on craiglist or the classifieds for not much dough

Nothing wrong with allocating funds where you want/need and doing things on the cheap. If you are keeping the car stock there really is no "need" for a bunch of $$ being spent on the exhaust. If you delete the mufflers and then want to add them back you are just a quick trip to the muffler shop away from adding them back. If all the smog equipment works now I wouldn't delete it. Now if you want the most power out of your car and plan on modifying it different story. Also you could add a cat back system to your stock midpipe if you want. There are plenty of good systems out there. "Sound" quality is all individual preference anyway.

That is what I am thinking. Can the cats come off without replacing the mid pipe? If not, leave them alone and replace the mufflers with American Thunder Stainless Steel Flowmasters. That is what I am thinking. They are like $500 and will cost me about $150 to put on, but I won't be changing anything else on the motor so why not? All that is left is replace seats and do some small cosmetics and the car will be in show shape in my opinion.

I'm running "Flows" myself. But I've got an h pipe and shorties. I wouldn't remove the cats with a stock moter. It's not worth it. You gain minimal power and a louder exhaust note but you also aren't emissions legal and they tend to smell "gassy" plus you might as well remove all the other crap also(smog pump, etc). Doesn't seem to be worth it in your case.

Are these prices ok? Does anyone know if welding will be involved? 150 to install catbacks, 190 for mid and cats.. 450 for headers but I'm going to skip to keep stock look..
