High mileage 351w usable?

My buddy has a 78 F150 with a 351w and he is planning on intalling a new long block. My question is, would a 270,000 mile motor (specifically the block) be worth using as long as it hasn't already been bored and doesn't have any cracks? If so, I plan to buy it off him and put it in my 88 GT.

Which brings me to my 2nd question. I'm helping him look for a long blocks. Are there any builders out there who sell 351w long blocks in the neighborhood of $3000-3500? Any links you could give me would be much appreciated.

If the motor is running....that is positive.

It is going to be worn,,,,???cylinders???

Your best bet is to take it apart and look at it.

You can get a 351w shortblock for under $3500.00 from many, many builders.....CHP, Keith Craft, DSS, FRPP, etc....

If the motor is running, has not previously been bored, and does not have any cracks, I would say yes, it should be a fine block to build, which is what I am assuming your question is given the mileage and the fact that your buddy is looking for a long block. If you're considering using a 270,000 mile engine as is, I would strongly recommend against it.

I would, however, suggest that you also look into a shortblock, longblock, and/or crate motor before deciding to invest in this engine for a build. Unless you have a good deal of experience in building engines and can do it yourself, its really hard to beat the price and quality of an engine from the sources 67GTCOUPE suggested.

a brand new 351 LONGblock is about 1500 bucks from CHP. They're just SBFs, they're cheap.

I am sorry, but I have seen rotating assemblies from CHP for $1500.00, but longblocks????? I would have to see that to believe that price.
