Ho do you remove the head rest's on a GT

I do it from the back. It's easier if you take the seat out but it can be done with them in.

WHat i do is unzip the seat back. Slide your hand up the seat and try to feel around the area on the frontside of the seatback, right where your shoulders will be on the seat. You should feel a little clip in there. Slide a screwdriver up the seatback and put the head under this clip and twist. It won't take much pressure. WHile doing this, pull up on the headrest, it should come right out.

Also, make sure you take the plastic trim peice out as well. After that justy slide the halos in.

The first time will take you a few mins to figure out, but once you know the trick, you can take em out in 30 seconds.

Ah yes, my most famous thread. My headrests were rusted in there pretty decent (vert) and I fought the one side for a good bit. All the info on that thread was so great that it's been posted all over (mod motor sub-forum, etc) - a great credit to those who posted. Everyone really came through to help me out. :nice:

oh I tried unzipping the seat cover and reaching up but my arm wouldn't fit all the way. didn't really try to hard or for to long I'll work at it tomorrow a little.

The black netted ones I was talking about that I think I can get ...well he kinda want's to trade me seats his are black and from an older one I think..it was dark but I will look agian during the day and probly trade him.

so how did you get them out. Did you go through the top with a hack saw blade
I went in from underneath like Mike mentioned. I have 18" forearms, so it was a real PITA (I did it on a hot day when the seat material would stretch). I could eventually feel what everyone was talkin about. I had to pry for a bit to unseize the pieces and then things slid apart.
The pass side was easy because the headrest had never been raised (previous owner of my car was a giraffe) and had raised the driver side headrest and rain got in there.

I don't think mine slide up they just tilt foward. will they be the same to remove
Yes. I replaced my prior 87 GT seat headrests with some Escort GT halos after I almost hit a car that was in the huge blind spot created by the stock headrests. I hated those things.

I looked for some in a escort GT and they didn't have any they almost looked like mine but with green trim arount them. oh well I'm sure I will find some around some where.

I tried the hacksaw blade trick and I couldn't get it do you go in the inside of the plastic sleeve or on the outside.

On the GT big headrest seats I've never been able to get anything in from the top, since you can't pull the headrest up far enough. I had to go into the seatback from the bottom.

Here is a pic of the Escort GT headrests on my seats. I had the same kind on my red GT seats and sold a couple of sets to friends. The hard thing is finding ones that are not all cracked up down here from the sun.

Thanks guys. The headrests were originally light grey. All the Escort GT headrests I've seen are either light grey or beige. I dyed them black with some spray dye. It turned out OK, but I'd really like to have them covered in leather to match the seats.

Blakthorn, I've owned the car since BK (before kids!) so all of mine have ridden in carseats in it. My oldest two (15 and almost 12) came home from the hospital in it. The seats in the pic were for my twins several years ago. They are 5 now and we've graduated to some black and red booster seats. (got to match the interior! LOL!)
