HobieDude16's *OFFICIAL* 2009 NCAA Football Thread

We held the number 1 team in the country to 100 yards below their offensive average and lowest points total since 2005. Our offense stinks and needs a lot of work but we are asking too much from a sophomore QB by running an offense for a senior.

Probably not on TV but after pregame warmups the Florida players met near the "Eye of the Tiger" logo at midfield. They kept trying to back up onto the logo as refs and coaches kept them off. The LSU players took offense and rushed over and both teams were jeering and taunting about 10 yards apart. What a wild start...

In 2001 Auburn met at midfield, stomping on the "Eye" and it was shown in the LSU locker room...they lost. They did it again in 2005 and got flagged for unsportsman like conduct before the game started. Arizona did it a few years ago and got waxed...lucky for Florida then never got a chance to get on the logo. :D

Still ranked #10...

LSU was pretty dang impressive last night. They certainly played well on defense. That game made me realize we really need a fully healthy Tebow, or need to swap in Brantley some so we can actually get some passes in. They hardly threw the damn ball! Our defense is as strong as ever, though, which I love!

You could tell he was a little timid at first but as the game wore on he got more comfortable. If we had any simblace of an offense you'd be going home with a loss. :D

We have a bye week so hopefully they adjust this offense to suit a young QB or put in the starter from last season to give Jefferson some learning time.

Good luck beating Bama in the SECCG...They are impressive.

They have very good DBs, almost as fast as the Gators .. Im sure if Tim had been given the chance he would have opened the running game up more .. Seemed like he got worse hits after he threw the ball or a hand off .. Oh well Rest of the year is very winnable games .. Next big game Bama and LSU ....

Eh, we'll see what happens, but if the UF/Bama happens (which is likely), as long as we hold onto the ball, I'm not too worried. They have totally capitalized off of turnovers. If you take out turnovers, Bama is not a top ranked team. They've done VERY well on creating/benefiting from the turnovers, and that's in their favor, but we'll see what happens in a couple months.

Oh, and I somewhat agree with your assessment of if LSU had offense, but not completely. I think our defense can handle anyone, even a good offense, so if they had been better, it would have been more challenging, but I still think our D could hold. Also, if the defense was struggling, I think our team would have played WAY less conservative, and gone all out to win, so that they could avoid the L. I think that game was played VERY conservative on UF's side, mostly due to Tebow's injury. I'm hoping he's fully healthy next week, and we can get back to normal....

I agree with the LSU defense point. Those guys were fast, and always near the ball. It was hard for our offense to get clicking, be it due to their defense being good, or our offense struggling. I also think that if Tebow had been given "free reign," we would have seen more productivity. I think Meyer held him back to avoid injury, and to ensure we get the W with no risks. As I said above, I think if LSU had been producing more on our D, then our O would have been let loose, and played much more "all out," and less "conservative."

Oh well, another weekend in the books, and can't wait for next Saturday!

Quote Urban Meyer said:
"I didn't feel like they were going for the win," Meyer said of the game against the Vols. "They wanted to shorten the game. I think that was the plan. I remember looking out there and there's 10 minutes left in the game and there's no no-huddle - they are down, I think it was 23-6, and no urgency on Tennessee's part."

It made Meyer look weak. Meyer blamed everything from the flu to the G-20 summit for why Florida didn't destroy the Vols and humiliate Kiffin. Although several members of Florida's team were ailing badly before the Tennessee game, once Meyer started rambling about swine flu and how some of his players shouldn't have played, Kiffin's mission was accomplished.

Quote Lane Kiffin said:
I guess we'll wait and after we're not excited about a performance, we'll tell you everybody was sick."

I'll stick with Lane Kiffins comments after Meyer called him out... :D

Not sure what you're going for, but it sounds like you're trying to play the "you're giving excuses" card. If that's your hand, whatever, so be it. But I am giving LSU credit, and stating my opinion that UF didn't go all out, crazy, and taking risks for the win, since they didn't have to. Had they needed to do that to win the game, I feel they would have had a LOT more long passes, and risky plays to try to win it, rather than running almost EVERY time, and passing oh so rarely.

I could care less about how much we win by, as long as it's a win. If UF scores 50, it doesn't count any more than if we score 13. To make it car related..... I'll quote Vin Diesel, and say "It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning." lol

I was just pulling your chain...I agree, a win is a win. We were 5-0 ugly but they were all wins.

Young QBs are frustrating, aren't they? TP has flashes of brilliance, but has a lot of moments of absolute awfulness too. Take our game on Sat. He throws a stupid INT early in the game that sets up Wisconsin's lone TD, but at the end of the 1st half, he runs the 2 min offense perfectly and capped it off with a nice 20+yd TD pass to lead us into halftime 14-10.

Drive me crazy...he has so much talent but I blame coaching for not using it to suit his strengths.

Part of the problem is TP is bound and determined to be a pocket passer because his goal is to play QB on Sunday. You probably don't get to see many of our games (probably only the USC game so far), but he probably averages 5 plays a game where he has an easy 10 yard run right in front of him and he dances around trying to find a receiver to force the ball to, then he'll get tackled for a short loss instead of throwing it away. You can't tell me the coaching staff is teaching him that. I know the staff can coach up a young mobile QB, just look at what they did with Smith. Ignore the BCS title game debacle for a moment and consider this, Smith really did develop into a legitimate QB who is still hanging on in the NFL. He may not be a starter, but where is Chris Leak?

Granted Smith looked better all year (and career) than Leak, and was drafted (which Leak wasn't), he hasn't proved to be much of anything in the NFL. The reason he is only "hanging on," IMO, is because his "appearance" that got him drafted was overplayed by the weak defenses he faced every week. That was exposed in the BCS NC game, and again in the NFL.

Also, Smith is a much better athlete for the NFL than Leak, but I honestly don't think either are good enough, and Smith just pulled off the look long enough to get drafted...

Dude, he wasn't a 1st round pick with all the status that comes with that, he was a 5th round pick. Also, he's in his 3rd year now and has been through a coaching change as well. I seriously doubt he's still in the league just because of winning the Heisman. Hell, he was slated to be the Ravens starter last year until he ran into health issues at the end of pre-season and that opened the door for Flaco.

Meh, to each his own. That's why I said IMO. Also, I never even mentioned the Heisman, that has no direct impact on NFL success....

Exactly the situation we are in with Jordan Jefferson. I mentioned him a while back being a "more developed Terrell Pryor" and while the kid is talented he is still 19 years old and not ready for as a starter in big time college football. He takes a 6-7 step drop and instead of stepping up into the pocket when the o-linemen pushes the defenders wide he takes two more steps back and into the rush...he was sacked 6 times against Georgia and 5 against Florida. I can't understand why the coaches can't see that he is not a developed pocket passer and either roll him out or use quick outs and screens. Plus it wouldn't hurt to put his back-up in that started 7 games last season to give him some time to eyeball whats going on every now and then.

Also we have this phenom freshman QB named Russel Sheppard had been getting more and more playing time in the previous games from the "wildcat" and gained 7-10 yards a play...never saw the field against Florida. I can't figure this coaching staff out sometimes.
