how can i find out what gearing i have?

i just bought my car, its a 1993 LX coupe, 5.0 HO motor, 5 speed tranny.

what did these come with from the factory? im pretty sure no one has messed with anything like that. the car is completely stock. thanks

You most likely have 2.73's or possibly 3.08's. You can check by jacking up the rear of the car, putting a mark on the driveshaft,spin the rear tires, and count the number of times the tire spins in relation to one driveshaft rotation. If its about 2 and 3/4 times, you have 2.73, if its a little more than 3 times, you have 3.08's.

well ive been hearing that new gears are one of the first mods people do with there cars. i was thinking something along the lines if 3.55s? how much do u think those would cost?

The ring and pinion are around 175ish new, probably could get a better deal used. It usually runs $400 for install, including the kit, but dont quote me on that because i've never actually had it done.

I would go with 3.73s definetly... I think most people would agree with me. Especially if its stock/near stock

Yea i meant to mention that, i have 3.90's and i love them, 3.73's would be good also. 3.55 are good if you have some kind of boost, but for a mostly stock car, its not really enough.
