How do I do a 5 lug conversion...with a twist

I have searched and found numerous threads on what and how to perform a 5 lug conversion.

I understand the front, 94-95 spindles, with the spacer for ball joint. Great/Easy!

For the rear, I have a 4 lug disc out of a turbo coupe. It is wider (1.5 total) and It really limits my rim/tire choices. I am currently running a 17x9 cobra R with 255 and I am getting little ,but existant, tire rub on the outer edge of the tire. I have read you can replace the axles with axles out of SN95 and it will keep the stock (turbo coupe) width. This would convert to 5 lug, but it will still create whelel fitment problems.
Rather than going to a 245 and loose traction, I want to try and either go back to stock track width OR find a way to make sure the new 5 lug wheels I get have the correct dimensions to "tuck" back into the wheel well and let me run up to a 275 tire in the back for when I go to the track. I dont see the point in using a max 245 width drag radial when I could be using 275 and actually hook up. Also note the car has ford racing C springs and is NOT a full out drag car.
Basically, I just want to utilize my current rear end. If required, Im prepared to sell the 4lug 3.73 disc setup and go for a setup that will work for my application.

My plan was to run a bigger brake setup, and 03/04 17 cobra wheels, or Y2K's 18s

i dont know about keeping the turbo coupe discs, but i do know that sn95 discs will work with either the sn95 axles and brackets, or with the ranger axles with nrc braketry. this will allow you to use either v6/gt OR the cobra rears, the later would work perfectly with the 13" fronts.

Five lugTurbo Coupe conversion:
Use the 94-95 axles as mentioned above. Use 1990 Mazada MPV 3.0 V6 front rotors (10", 5 lugx 4.5" pattern, 2 7/16" offset ). While you are at the auto parts store, set a TC rear rotor side by side with the Mazada rotor and they are the same except for the offset.

The next step fixes the offset problem:
Use a Maximum MotorSports 1/8 spacer (MMWS6, http://www.maximummotorsports.com/i...roduct_info&manufacturers_id=&products_id=576 ) between the inside of the rotor and the axle flange. The spacers may need to have the OD machined to fit properly. The stock rotor offset is 2 5/16" and the Mazada rotors are 2 7/16" offset. The 1/8" spacer puts the rotor back dead center alignment with the calipers.

Great info as usual. I have the t/c rear and and am kinda considering a 5lug conversion(again, lol). I just wish there wernt so many foxes running around with bullits and cobra rims. I may just stick to my 93 cobra rims and buy an aftermarket set and have them widened for the rear and narrowed for the front. They are the only rims I dont see on alot of stangs(yet).

spacer is for the rear disc as written in the above, above, above post

yes .33" between the ball joint and castle nut. Otherwise you run out of threads!!

read my post above- the 87 93 ball joint shank is taller than 94-95 which means with the 94-95 spindle in place, the threads do not go to the spindle, which means you will run out of threads. Hope that helped.

You don't have to "lose" your rear offset because the brake set up you are wanting to use will push the wheel out. Check out Nrth Race cars solution - they offer a custom mounting bracket that retains your fox-length rear axle setup. They also offer a kit.

so with the current turbo coupe rear end I have, all i need is ranger axles , the north race car brackets and SN95 calipers/rotors???

Buy the northrace car brackets from the above link for a TC.

Now this will pull your entire setup in to the stock fox track. If you used fox 4-lug axles, you'd be all set.

However, to run 5-lug, you can use ranger axles that will work for the stock track, and redrill the tc rotors to 5-lug.

you'll need the spindles, hubs, calipers and brake lines along with the rotors.

GT calipers with the 10.8" rotors and Cobra calipers with the 13" rotors.

EDIT: Nevermind, that's for the front, we are talking about the rear here. Sorry

Mazda rotors and the MM spacers would probably be cheaper than having a machine shop precision drill the rotors for a 5 lug 4.5" bolt circle pattern.

True, but i'm not sure i would like the idea of running spacer inside the rotor on my own car. I'm not a fan of spacers in any method

Myself personally would rather redrill the rotors.

So the OEM sn95 rear rotors will not work with sn95 calipers and ranger axles? Im gathering I need to use my 8.8 housing...replace the TC axles with ranger axles, use sn95 calipers and utilize the special caliper brackets, drill out my TC rotors...correct??

Yes it will work.

Your best interest is to sell off the TC parts to fund this project.

Then buy the NC brakets for either the GT 10.5" rotors or the Cobra vented 11.65" rotors. Buy the rotors and SN95 calipers and matching pads.

You still will be need misc parts like the dust shields and soft line hoses (the TC hoses may still work) as well as anti-moans.

You could modify the TC parts to work, but next time you need a brake job you will have to remodify the brake components. I am more of a fan of not modding brakes, so i would just either pick the cobra or GT rear setup and go with that using the NC brackets
