I daily drive the fastback, and I have a very serious issue. The drone is so bad that my ears are ringing after long drives, and I have been forced to wear earplugs when driving the car now. I drove the car for several hours today, and my right ear still feels like there's water in it or something.

I have 2.25in, no crossover pipe, and 40 series delta flows. I also have soundproofing under the carpet. I need to lessen the drone ASAP. Whats the best route to take?

On my car I have 4.11's+flowmaster 40's (no delta)+turndowns+bare metal floor=noise city. Best I can say short of getting new mufflers is getting an X pipe and running the pipes all the way to the rear (if they already are not).

Edit: Is this your first time driving your car with this exhaust set up btw????

Are you running anything after the mufflers? I had full tail pies with my flows and had no drone. I took off the pipes which made it much louder and have a very ear ring drone. I put on some dumps and the difference between straight muffler and just dumps is like day and night!! Sounds crazy but I could not believe the sound difference, in and out of the car, by just adding dumps.

No drone at all. We had to do this to make sound at Laguna.

Well i have tri-y's, and the tips exit right under the rear valence.

Ive driven the car for several months like this, but just last week put in 3.00 gears since the 3.70 chunk was shot. I really like the better gas mileage i get, but seriously, it feels like there is water in my right ear because the drone is the most awesome/deafening sound known to mankind. Seriously, some guys are work were laughing at me cause i wore ear plugs, and i took them for a ride, and they wanted the plugs after 10 min. I wont drive the car at all until my hearing gets better. Will some glass packs in front on the flows stop the drone? Or should i just put in some straight flow mufflers like hooker maxflows, or even some turbos?

Don't get turbo's? Just what are Flowmasters if they're not turbo's? Dynomax's and all the other "performance" mufflers too? Run the exhaust out the rear and you'll get rid of the noise.

The exhaust does come out the rear. It comes out past the rear valence.

basically, turbo's are cheaper mufflers I guess you'd say. But there is a difference between turbo's and a flowmaster or dynomax exhaust.

Maybe to you, but to me, they're all turbo style mufflers. The flow path thru nearly all are basically the same. Also the same basic shape and construction.

I've got Dynomax's on both a V8 89 Ranger and a 68 Merc Monterey and neither has a drone at speed. Sorry I thought someone posted that your exhaust exited at the rear wheels.

I ran Dynomax superflows with turn downs and a H-pipe and had very little, if any drone. And they get loud when you get into the throttle.

Turbos are a totally different internal design. They lessen the drone alot, but outside the car is much less aggressive as well.
I had problems with FM drone as well, I would swap in Turbos occaisionally when it got too much, then back to the FMs when I was going to a show or the track.
Mine were dumped under the car though. I always thought running them out the back would solve the problem.
An H-pipe is where I would start if I were you, then if that doesn't help much, get some good turbos.
Turbos sound great IMO, but they are quite a bit more mellow than FMs.
Trying an H wouldn't hurt and you might gain a little torque from the mod.
One step at a time!
