I am going to get the rear quarter mouldings off a 85 convt in the yard tomorrow and need some help. What tools do I need to get them off without breaking them. Will they fit my 91 convt? How about the rest of the mouldings around the top? What tools do I need? Thanks.

the well moldings should be the same. the vert top assembly is what is different through the years. there are nuts holding the moldings on. since it is a JY car, cut as much of the top away from the molding as possible and you will feel the nuts under the lip. use a small wrench to remove the nuts and the moldings should pop off.

The catalogs only show the new/repros as 87-93, but I am going to get them either way. Can't hurt to have a good set laying around.

just a note. There are 4 nuts to remove. The one most forget is at the end, where the modling meets the quarter window. As for them being the same. I have a 86 and 90 and they are different. On the 90 the molding extends all the way around past the quarter window to the edge of the door opening. On my 86 it only extends to the quarter windows then there is a different pieice that has the quarter window dew wipe and molding. If you change both I think they will work. I do know that the 91-93 tops are redesigned to sit lower in the car when retracted but I think the top opening in the car is the same size as the older cars.

NO they only fit 83-85 as far as I know. 86 might be the same? 4 piece sytem.

The black pot metal is brittle for the quarter windows and it is held at the rear under the back 2 piece moldings with a rivet which has to be drilled out or you will break off that corner. Under the front lip is a nut and a cast in stud from the molding. The wiping rubbers are available new and have to be riveted back on but the actual moldings aren't available anywhere as only fit 3 years. They sell for about $50 each used at bone yards in good condition.

Hopefully you didn't break them yet? You might get $100 for the pair?
