How hard is it to make 400 rwhp on n/a 331 or 347?

I wouldnt call you a traitor if you took an 86 GT converted it to an aero, and it had a LS motor in it :D
Now we're talkin :D
Posted via Mobile Device i've got 35hp to go so come spring i'm looking into a single plane intake and custom carb. I think that should just about get me there. Price just depends on how resourceful you are. I got my long block with the cam for 1350 used. If you do your homework and catch some deals on the classifieds you can do it fairly cheap.

If I remember correctly your motor is pretty low compression. The single plane is a great idea but I would also pop the heads off quick and have them decked. If you get it up around 10.5:1 it will really come alive. Usually costs around $100 to have a set of heads decked.

Posted via Mobile Device i've thought about it and i regret it now that i didn't do that when i had the valve work done but now with my cam i'm not sure if i can spare the ptv clearance. On a plus side i can prob run 89 octane and not ping.

Posted via Mobile Device to correct myself, i got my short block for 1350 not the long block. Another tip i'll give is be patient. I sat on my heads for 4 long years before i had the means to get a stroker to put them on. If you plan it out and stick to the plan you can get parts a piece at a time and reach your goal over time. Trust me it's all the sweeter once you finally get there.

Hey guys this is my first post just getting back into the mustang thing, bought a bolt on 89GT [gears, exhaust]. I plan on buying a topend kit from Anderson motosports for the stock block this winter, and hoping to hit 300rwhp. That should hold me over for a couple of years. But will eventually do DSS 331 or 347 stroker and would like to swap the top end over, would that get me close to 400 or would I have to do a whole new top end again. Thanks for any help?

If you're really intent on getting a N/A 400rwhp, your chances are much better if you go for the biggest displacement possible because that means you won't have to rev the engine as high to reach the HP peak. Therefore you could consider a 351W-based 414ci stroker.
If you stick with a 302-based 347ci stroker, you'll be aiming at 1.2rwhp/ci and you'll need a ~6000rpm HP peak to get there. This means selecting parts that would otherwise produce a ~7000rpm HP peak in a 302.

Posted via Mobile Device my buddy's 347 peaks at 5800rpm. He made 386 at the wheels with victor jr heads, systemax intake and an ed curtis cam. It's odd that it made peak power so low especially since the cam is pretty stout at .580/.620ish split lift and 240ish duration @.050. It also made 399tq. It makes for a white knuckle ride in a 3100lb car with 4.10s and a 6 speed.

that sounds almost identical to my motor, my cam is smaller and it made just a touch less TQ on the chassis dyno, but ive changed a couple things since the dyno
