I just did mine and found it easier to just remove them from the car. Just to clarify, there's a total of NINE (9) nuts for each quarter window on a hatchback (Not sure of the # for notchbacks). I sanded them down with a 400 grit paper, then a 600 grit for fine finishing (this depends on how badly pitted they are. You may have to use a spray on filler product also known as "feather fill" to fill in all the deeper pits). I used a high build primer, about 3 coats, then sanded with a light grit again. I then sprayed a coat of Bull Dog Adhesion Promoter to make the new paint stick real nice. To finish, I applied about 3 coats of SEM Landau Black. Looks good as new.
