How hard to degree and FTI Cam?

The way i have always done it is to use a dial caliper on the lifter. Do yourself a favor and just get one with a magnetic base...will make things much easier rather than wasting money on the cam degree kits through summit, jegs, etc. They are REALLY cheap on ebay.

Anyway, i just make a pointer for the degree wheel that is bolted onto the balancer and spin it over until its .050" and read the degree its at. Compare to the cam card and go to the closing events. Check again. Then go to the exhaust and double check...should be right on if the intake is right on.

Then just make adjustments from there depending on if its off or not.

Where are u confused at? Have you done any reading up on degreeing cams?

It would make much more sense if it was all in front of you. On the cam card they have opening and closing events at .050" right? So u set the dial caliper up on the lifter so u know when u are at that lift, then read the degree wheel to see if it matches your cam card.

Im pretty sure this is right. This is the way i have always done it and how it was explained to me.

I wish i could get more detailed with it...pictures and such would help. But there are articles out there(i think even FTI has some on their site) that help a bunch too.

starting to follow you lol, do you know where a link is on this subject with more in depth reading, I ordered about 3 books from Car Tech Books, i am gonna do some reading while i am bored at work......lol

Hi, I have an FTI cam made up and it says I cannot use the intakecenterline method for installing the cam. How hard is it to degree a cam to specific specs?

Why not go straight to the source of creation

Ask Ed :D

After all ... You are his customer :nice:
