I'm doing a 347 buildup with nitrous shortly and am curious as to how much a machineshop can really do to a set of 185's? i will also be running a edelbrock rpm 2 upper and lower with a custom cam. any help would be great.
Since the 185's are already CNC'd, I doubt you could take them past 210cc.
Either way, it's not worth it to get them ported. If you want to port the 185's, set up to the 205 head - the amount you'd be spending to get the 185 head to 205cc wouldn't be justifiable.
i had heard that the 205's are more for 351's and bigger cui motors than the 347. i was just wondering if their is anything that would need to be cleaned up a little bit better or anything.
Go bigger, I say rock the 205s ANYWAY. I've always heard that AFR's are "perfect" out of the box and that you shouldn't fool with them. If you're getting a custom cam then your grinder definately should be able to account for the 205s flow... hell while you're at it, snag a Vic Jr. intake instead of the RPMII and build a monster. Its not too much more.
WITHOUT A DOUBT. i think people on here are guilty of not going big enough some times and i say that a 347 could handle a 205cc intake runner. after all a lt1 chevy motor is a 350 and afr sells a street/strip 205 for it so why the hell not.
im not trying to get into debt here but i do want a solid running motor. i want it to be a little bit streetable, like to and from the track and drive it once or twice a month to work. i dont care about gas mileage as i have the v6 for the daily driver. wouldn't running the 205's really call for a bigger cam? im not gonna go overkill with the cam as the motor will have nitrous. how much diff is there between the vic jr and the rpm 2? i thought the rpm 2 was pretty much designed for 347 cui or thereabout size motors? i am gonna keep it fuel injected as well. how hard would the tune be on it?
