How much HP?

I have a friend who is looking into spending some $$$ building up his TC. He is looking into going with the ESSLINGER 3 Liter stroker, big valve head, stainless header, etc, etc, etc. and feeding it with a T-76. As far as street driving with him, it will be limited and at low boost on 93 octane. My question is, How much RWHP has someone squeezed out of a setup like this? I am meaning with race fuel, tuning and the works.

3 ltr? hmm...are you talking about a tall deck block? i have yet to see a standard bore 2.3 block make it 3.0 safely(smartly) there is nothing street able about that setup truthfully....but in answer to your question, who can say. Similar setups with stroked tall blocks and "the works" have seen 700hp, you can make as much hp as you want, if you are willing to put the $$ into it.

Yup. John dell runs 735 rwhp but I stop counting at like 6k in his motor He uses a tall deck which is very hard to find from what I understand. Give your friend dell's link, its got a break down of everything dell is running and its not a stroker either.

His Pinto is not, his Focus is a 2.8...esslinger block (as stated).

As stated also, you can't make a 3.0 without a tall deck block (~4500 bucks used).

I haven't had a chance to actually go out and measure the deck height on this block he brought in but he claims that it is a tall deck block.

John Dell found like 3-4 tall decks on Ebay for 1200 each once and bought them all. That is the cheapest I have heard one sell for. Now I don't know if its true but I heard someone say its cost a lot more on internal parts when useing a tall Deck also compared to a regular block.

If it's an 87-90 n/a block then the only differences are in metallurgy, lack of an oil return...91-93 have smaller mains along with the above mentioned differences...

It will still take a lot of money just to do the 2.8L stroker and probly make the car less dependable. If it was me and I know its not...but I would just use a stock 2.3T motor. We have all seen pretty good rwhp out of these motors. I've seen 12's with these motors in 3700lb cars and even faster in pintos.

I suppose he'd need the 2.8L displacement to spool up a T-76 turbo...
