If you look at the puny size of the stock MAF, a bigger one should be a part of any intake upgrade plan.

It's very true.
I was told just that by experts, then we took 3 mustangs to the track, all BFG drag radials, pulleys, k&n, offroad h's and every car ran .2 quicker with the exact same meter in every car.

does it have to be a pro-m?

I have an 89 gt aod with edl heads ,cobra intake,b 410 gears , stock cam with 1.7s and stock mass air and 19 injs

To be honest, i don't know.

My guess is that the calibration of a flowed meter helps along with the size.

Where's the ford meters with stock sensors only improve on size.

I am happy with my BBK meter, and others are happy with even the 94-5 upgrade. Anything bigger will help that restriction so far in the intake track.
