How much louder will it be with longtubes on the highway?

Right now, I have stock manifolds, bassani catted X-pipe, and a magnaflow catback. Cruising on the highway at 65 mph in 5th gear, it is remarkably quiet. I can carry a conversation inside the car or listen to the stereo with no problems. I'm about to switch to longtubes and an O/R midpipe. Are those days of having a nice quiet cruising exhaust behind me? Do I need to worry now about "loud exhaust" tickets?

I'm not asking about on the dragstrip at WOT (where I prefer it loud); I'm asking about normal cruising.

the or midpipe will make it louder, but from what i have seen the longer headers change the sound. it is not a bad thing. I have a similar setup and i love the sound. its not quiet at all, but its not retarded loud like some bikes, trucks or open headers. Its a good sound, i think you would be very happy with it.
My cats bolt in and are easy to take out, so i have had it both ways with and without headers. I like it without cats with headers.

I have BBK LTs, Dr Gas O/R X, and a Magnaflow CB. Its pretty nice inside the car...I mean yea you can hear it, but you can easily talk and listen to the radio. I like it

As far as O/R combos go...this (our setup) is the QUIETEST its going to get. With a stock midpipe, my car sounds ALMOST stock in volume....just a better tone. Through on the O/R X and you can hear me over a mile away (literly)...and the sound is just . I say go for it....you will not regret it. And expect alot of complements on the exhaust

I had BBK LT's, with an O/R H and a Magnaflow catback previously and it was a great sound. The longtubes help deepen the sound, not make it louder. The Magnaflow catback paired with the longtubes will definitely keep your ears happy. When you are normally driving it is not loud at all, and you can talk, listen to the radio, etc... But when you get on it, people will hear you coming. Its a great setup and I am sure you will be happy with the sound, I have had six different exhaust setups/combinations and it has been my favorite thus far.

Thanks for the replies. I was really hesistant about LTs because of the noise issue, as well as what I hear about them killing starter motors

I heard from JBA's website that long tube headers (and headers in general) don't change the tone of the exhaust. I guess it's perhaps just their brand of headers?

Longtubes will always make the car a little louder and change the exhaust note. But, it is a very good change.

I have BBK LT's, custom ORH, Flowmaster 40 Series Race mufflers, and Flowmaster axle-back with the 3" tips. It is pretty loud, but it sounds amazing! I can cruise down the highway in 5th gear at 70-80 MPH with little to no drone inside the car, and I can carry on a conversation with a passeger with no problem.

Now once you stand on the loud pedal, all bets are off!

I went from a mac prochamber/catback and stock manifolds to a mac catback hpipe and headers. Why it is louder now at wot its quieter at cruising speeds.

loud is awesome

ok loud is good sometimes for some people like me i like pissing the neighbor off at 6 in the mornin but i think the headers are good but i wouldnt go with a mid pipe id keep your x pipe go with 2 chamber flowmasters and like a 3.5 cobra tips, but if you want it loud headers, gutted cats, all 2.5in exhaust 2 chamber flowmasters and dumps now thats a street loud that will piss a lot of people off

dont know if its just me but when i did my LT's it got a little quieter acutally. sounds awesome though

I'm hearing a lot of people say the same thing -that LTs actually made it quieter at cruising speeds, and louder at WOT. That would be perfect (for me).

This is true, but removing the cats will out weight the effect of the long tubes being quieter while cruising. I love my setup, awesome sound! But, if the drone is too loud while cruising for you, just put down some dynamat and roll the windows down if you want to hear the exhaust more. I love that stuff.

That'd be good for me if lts were quietier at crusing speeds. I plan on trying to get an 04 stang either monday or tuesday and want full exhaust asap. I will have to drive the car an hour on the interstate at least 2 times a week so quieter crusing lower wot is nice

If it gets too loud, just throw some brown bead on the floors and it'll quiet it down a bit. Love the sound tone the LTs provide though...
