My friend just picked up a silver '87 5.0, yesterday.

It has cat-back exhaust, BBK headers, mac intake, ford racing wires and FRPP 3.73 gears.

However the car was never tuned after getting the gears, so I'm sure he's losing some power there. From what I've read 5.0's make ~190rwhp.

I'm guessing:
cat-back: 5-8rwhp
headers: 10-15rwhp
intake: 5-8rwhp
wires: 5rwhp

I figure he should be around 220rwhp. That sound about right?

Why would you need to get a car tuned after adding gears? Just slap em in and go. No need to adjust anything on the engine for this particular year.

Stock 5.0's can make anywhere from 180HP to 200HP at the rear wheels stock in a good state of tune. AOD's will be at the lower end and 5-spds at the high end.

With those mods, he's probably about 210-220HP assuming the car is in a good state of tune.

It's a mechanical speedometer. He just needs a red 21-tooth speedo gear. $7 from Ford.

The older cars are a bit more "simplier" to mod than your '02.

Ahh, awesome.

Was wondering about that. He's also looking to get some Saleen 140 MPH gauges, will a chip be neccessary for those?

I'd guess more like 10-12HP from the entire exhaust system change - until you get above about 280HP the stock headers aren't a restriction. According to the dyno, my car (about 270 crank) LOST 3hp with the addition of Ford Racing headers. He's probably looking at 190-200 rwhp. Here's a link to help out with the speedo fix.

if hes serious about modifying this car, id say converting to mass air instead of speed density is one of the first things he should look into doing.

Since its speed density, and if its in good shape, you may see 225 to 235 on the dynojet
