Guys I'm torn about buying this SC kit. It's a Paxton Novi 1000 blower. Comes with every thing needed for the install except injectors and fuel pump. It comes with a 00 bracket. The head unit is polished. It IS used, but aparently only 4k miles. No intercooler. What is this kit worth? Thanks for the advice...

I don't think used injectors would be $300 (would that be a bad idea?). And it comes with a 87 pro-M MAF, but I'm not sure if that's good enough.

You need to be very very careful with used blower kits. There are lots of stories about guys damaging one and selling it off because the factory wouldn't warranty it due to abuse or neglect (improper oil line connection/turning it too fast/etc). I'd want to see the head unit and hold it in my hands,turn the impeller before dishing out any cash. I'm not saying that all used blowers are bad but if you don't know the person you're buying it from and it's exact history,then i'd be very careful.

I bought used parts for a twin turbo setup a while back for my mitsubishi. Everything worked fine. Plus you can get your money back through paypal if the parts are defective....

It is a gamble, but that's what you have to do to save money...

What is your reasoning? Many people use this kit with no problems. It doesn't produce MASSIVE amounts of power, but neither does the S-trim, and novi1000's are very inexpensive...

Used kits can be good if they come from somebody reputable. Check with Modular Powerhouse. You have to catch them at the right time, but sometimes they put up for sale used Vortech's that their customers traded up for. They'll piece together the remaining components with new parts as part of their Mongoose kit. Wouldn't hurt to give them a try and ask if they have any available.

I was one of the first to buy a used MPH vortech mongoose kit. The only used components are the head unit, bracket and powerpipe (5k miles on it). $2750 Best part about it, it comes with best tune out there. I just couldn't justify spending $4k on my 100k mile car. I could probably turn around and sell my blower kit and still recover most of my costs. Not going to happen if you spend over $4000

V2-SQ's easily support 550rwhp, and have been known to support upwards of 600rwhp (they are rated by vortech at 680hp support). Novi 1000 flows considerably less and is much less efficient.

I said not "great" meaning that for just a bit more you can get a Vortech or Novi2k, both of which support quite a bit more power than the Novi1k. Not knocking it. For an incomplete kit I wouldn't pay more than $1325, and that's if its as complete as you say, and truly does come with EVERYTHING except the items you mentioned are not included.

I've seen other Novi1k's sell for $1100 before described the same way...

I would be paying $1400 shipped. Like I said, I would need injectors,fuel pump, and a tune. I would probably sell the MAF it comes with though, as I'm not sure how good pro-M is.

For people on a budget, $1000 is a lot of money, and that doesn't seem like "just a bit more" to me. I don't want more than 500WHP anyway. My block won't handle that kind of power anyway, until it's rebuilt. You can only get so much power to the ground with street tires. And this isn't going to be a track-car only.

+1 for $1325. and pro-m is a reputable MAF, although I personally would stick with my 90mm LMAF.

My advice to a statement like that, is that if you're on that big of a budget that if you're having trouble justifying a couple hundred dollars in either direction when looking at buying a supercharger.......you should probably just leave your car stock until you've to a more disposable income.

Rule of thumb. Take whatever the cost of the blower and additional parts are going to cost you, then add another half to it. Then you'll get yourself into the right ball park. Sooooo many times I've seen people get in over their heads (financially) half way into a project and really have to pinch their pennies, cut corners or put everything on hold before they're able to get themselves back on track. Myself included.

thats the truth!!! i have over $3000 in parts just sitting in my house waiting to get all the necessary parts for the install. building a 650 hp car is a LOT of work. i still need $2400 in pistons, rings, cams, headers and all the other misc parts just to get my engine ready to be assembled. then i still need a $1500 fuel system and i'm sure about $2000 more in parts that i havent even considered yet. i just try to concentrate on one section of the car at a time. if you are worried about having the cash to do it right, i say dont do it at all.

if you really want it just get a personal loan. thats what i did. i got flamed for doing it but it was easier for me taht way. i borrowed $4200 for my novi 2k mongoose kit and paid it off in just under 6 months.

OK I realize having a supercharger can cause other problems as well. Before I slap one on I'm going to have "Back up" money incase the engine blows, or the rear snaps, etc. But lets face it, $1000 is a lot of money for the average joe. Unless your just sh1tting money lol.

Now that I think about it, a novi1000 would not be able to support the kind of power that I MIGHT want in the future. But I still believe buying a used kit is not a bad idea, if you trust the seller enough, and they have a reputable selling history. Hell, if the supercharger is bad, it can always be rebuilt for a little amount of money. I'm the kind of guy that believes in buying used cars instead of brand new cars. Why? Because when you buy a brand new car, you loose thousands of dollars RIGHT when you leave the lot. Same goes with any other new product. I'd rather take my chances with used stuff....
