How tight should the rear shock upper insulator bushing be?

I installed new rear shocks on my 95 Gt and wondering how tight should the top insulator nut be tightened to? Should the nut be tight where the rubber insulator looks like a pancake? Or is that to tight?

Should the rubber insulator be this tight? The rubber insulator looks flat as a pancake. Or is that to tight?

I use number #1... i go untill it smushes and you get some resistance... Im sure there is a torque spec though.

Torque spec is 25-34 Lb-Ft

It will squish to about the same diameter as the washer. It will look like less than the first pic but more than the second.

nope, just hold the upper part of the shock tube with your hand. Most shocks have that tube attached to the shaft. Now struts (like on the front of the car) on the other hand don't and it won't help, the shaft will still spin.

I've never seen that, every one I've had the shaft spun free inside the shock tube. In that case, you could just bolt it to the axle and it will hold the shaft in place.
