Sorry about the Newb question,

Ok, with these next mods, my car is going to be pretty near the limit for what it can handle. I was hoping that somebody could help put a little light on how to build up the bottom end.

I’ve searched around for about an hour now. I see tons of posts about people “Building the bottom end”, “Getting a worked short block” etc. I see bits and pieces of info here and there. I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction for finding out everything that is involved. What the kits include, what is different about them etc.

I’m learning more and more everyday, but I still don’t know much about the internals.

Thanks for any help!

Set a realistic HP goal. Planning and talking to Pros like http://www.vtengines.com/home1.htm and http://www.dssracing.com will start you off in the right direction. For the most part, most people believe that the stock bottom end will survive for a long time with a good tune and anything below 350 HP. Above that, and especially with forced induction or nitrous, you're considered on borrowed time. That leads to forged internals. More expensive obviously, but they can get you into higher HP numbers (relativeley) safely. Tim @ http://www.modularfordpowerhouse.com/ also has a very good reputation around here, and many people looking for high HP #s go to him. GL

What people are referring to is eliminating the week links in your motor mainly the rotating assembly. Start with a forged cobra crank then forged rods and pistons thats the easy part the hard part is putting it together. What I mean by being hard is combining all of the machine work and assembly to exact specs because any idiot can throw parts in a motor but to make it reliable and safe you need to make sure every tolerance is perfect and so on.
