its recommended to underfill the tranny. ive heard it actually reduces drag between shifts

Did you jack the car up at an angle when you did this? If the tranny is tilted to the left (as in you jacked up the car on the right) its gonna be overfilled.

I've found a way to refill the tranny (and diff) that has worked for me: Take a plastic or stiff silicone hose, (about 1/4" dia. 2' long) cut the top of the fill spout on the jug a little smaller than the hose, force the hose through, letting the hose just reach the bottom of the jug when you screw in back on. presto, instant squirt jug. squeezing the jug forces the lube up though the hose. it's a little slow, helps to warm up the lube 1st. but has worked mess free for me. never tried filling one from the top, may be easier? I hate Iffy lube places. the only times I've ever used them, I've had my drain plugs cross threaded, i've had them only put in about 3qt into a 5.0 I've had the filter so tight i had to crush it flat to remove it. unless i have broken arms I always do fluid changes myself. I don't trust em anymore.

changing oil throw shifter is the best and easy way. I din't have to filters cause mime is 5 speed, I heard if you have automatic then you might have to change filters.

Someone should do a write-up on how to change the fluid, with pics. This question seems to be asked pretty often. It's fairly simple, but if there were a sticky, obviously people could just go to the FAQ sticky and look it up. I'd do it if I had a digital cam that was worth a crap. A coolant flush write-up would be a good idea too.
