How to empty gas tank

Hey everyone,

I've been doing a vortech install but have been taking my time, almost done, but the gas in the tank is from when I started the project...(couple months ago) and wanted to see if there was any other way to get the gas out besides trying to syphon it out. I thought I saw something that looked like adrain plug of somekind, but wasn't sure. Figured since the gas was so old, I would want to put fresh gas in , especially now that its supercharged, possibly worried about detonation, resulting from poor gas. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have to drop the tank. Its a pain but its the only way. I did mine a few months ago because the car had been sitting for 14 months. There are (3) 8MM bolts by the gas cap. Then the (2) 1/2 bolts that hold the straps around the tank. Have some help because as you lower the tank you will have to disconnect both lines in mid air basically. I had two other people help me and it didn't take long at all. There are no drain plugs. I wish.

why not siphon it out they sell self priming siphon hoses fairly cheap like the one in the link below and wal-mart sells a self priming siphon hose. thats the way i do it its alot safer than dropping a full or half full tank of gas...

Didn't know those could be bought at Walmart, guess I'll try there, I'm assumjing most auto parts stores would sell something similar?

Pep Boys and AutoZone both do. Siphon pumps are great to have around.

disconnect the fuel line and turn on the fuel pump. let that pump it our for you...

or jsut throw in some octane boost and some good gas... then don't really get on it until you have re-fuelled...

Do you mean disconnect it where it meets the rail on the lower manifold?

I was thinking about throwing some octane booster and gas, but didn't know if my gas was to old to try something like this.

since ours is a return style system you can really disconnect it anywhere...

Thos pumps SUCK. I've tried it twice and the gas desolved the glue that hold the case together, resulting in a crap load of gas all over the place.

Glue? You obviously had a different type of pump then mine...mine is all rubber and metal and uses pressure fittings, not glue.

$10 at Pep Boys.

I took a 3/8" fuel hose line, ran it into the bottom of the tank, hooked up an inline fuel pump to the hose and I had a 30 gallon tank drained in no time. That will teach someone to keep gasoline out of a diesel truck

The pump runs around $50 or so at any auto parts store.

Just get the car on stands and pull the tank... Put a high flow pump in it while you have it down.. I pulled my tank replaced the pump and had it back in in less than an hour.. it's not bad really.
